you can put it anyway you like, IMHO these seem to be breaking quickly , the 50th's are 10 years old and are still going(I have one, so does Yvil, do you?)Many of the original's from 1954 are still around, I have played an original about 7 years ago that still had all the original knobs intact(and there are plenty more out there), yet at least 3 people here that have the new 60th had them crack in half after a couple months? don't see why you are defending these, It seems these are not exactly like the originals, or the 50th's.

Are we talking about the American Vintage version or the Custom Shop version or both?

......not if they are using the same stock parts for both runs.

It stands to reason that there ARE certain components such as plastic parts, metal parts, pots, caps, resistors, switches, tuners, bridge/vibrato assembly including springs, string trees, strings, and the like which will be used across the lines unless the build calls for something uniquely different.

You completely missed the point again, obviously Fender is using the same parts for the both 60th anniv. 54's, the new AVS and the new custom shop version(relic). The point being they are probably not the same as the ones that were used 10 years ago with the 50th anniv, 54's. Mike Eldred was asked many times on the forums after 2004 if the bakelite(polystyrene) parts could still be available from Fender, and he made it clear they no longer had them.Stands to reason 10 years later these are from a different batch, and most likey a different vendor altogether. This was the original point of discusion here, that several of the new 60th 54' owners have had the knobs crack completely in half in such a short time, the point I made is not all of the original 1954 knobs broke, many survive today, and from what I've seen on the forums most of the 50th anniv. 54's still have not had the knobs crack after 10 years(mine and Yvils included). So again, having the new 60th's break is not so much "that's just they was they were back in the day" as maybe these were produced diiferently. Only time will tell, if many more of these new knobs continue to break, then most likely it is a new production issue, if we don't hear about many ,than it can be chalked up to just being a few isolated cases.

Friend of a friend down here in SoFLA is still using his father's '54 professionally. I've actually handled it. Looks like death warmed over, but sounds fab.

Bon anniversaire!
Is there any info on the history, like who owned and played that beauty, maybe recordings it's been used in etc?
