Hi!

I recently got a Fender Classic Series '60 Stratocaster. It has a compound radius of 7.25".

I don't like the 7.25" neck, so I am considering switching it out with a 12" or 9,5" - 14".

Will it fit?

Yes.

7.25'' is vintage radius. Compound is 9.5''-14''.

Yes, all Stratocaster neck heels are the same dimensions. The only caveat being that some have a slightly sculpted non-rectangular body heel and an offset fourth bolt like this:

Strat necks fitted to those bodies may need another hole drilled into the neck to mount on the non-sculpted bodies but the neck dimensions are identical on both types of guitar.

I would add that replacing the neck is not necessary. A good luthier will be able to plane and sand the fingerboard to a flatter radius then install new frets.

I have a 62 RI Telecaster that is going in for precisely this operation next week. Cost will be the same as a refret, £180 or approximately $300. Keeps the guitar looking "stock", costs less than a replacement neck.

That "fifth hole" is OEM drilled, believe it or not.

Minor point but a compound radius is one where the board has more camber at the nut end than at the heel.

Fender, Warmoth and other manufacturers typically offer a neck with a gently curved 10 inch radius at the nut which flattens out to a 16 inch radius at the heel. Some players like this option as it makes chords easy to hold down on the low frets while accomodating string bends on the high frets.

Vintage style necks with a pronounced 7.25 inch radius will almost always have the same radius along the entire length of the fretboard.

Warmoth explain it better here ...

If no one has said it yet, make sure to check the neck scale length. If the scale length is not hte same, you may need to drill new whole or move the bridge.

Fender makes a compound radiused neck, e.g. the Vintage Hot Rod '60s Stratocaster has a 7.25" - 12" neck.
Fender licenced musikraft has an option of a compound 7.25" - 9.5" radius.
And most likely there are many others, too.

A Fender Licensed company that makes necks should always fit. Others may not.
