Hi all, just bought my first Strat (deluxe player, blue w/maple board), changed out the pickguard to pearl blue and restrung w/ 10-46; now my trem is up off the body about 3/8"! Do i need to adjust the spring claw or is there something i'm misssing?

Based on your question, this may come handy: StratSetupGuide
If the effect on trem plate height was so big, you most likely have to adjust the truss rod, intonation, string height...
Also: lube and check the nut grooves.

yes, it came with 9's, truss rod didn't seem affected but that remains to be seen after i get the trem back in line! I did read the set-up guide but i thought i'd ask on the forums from others who would know and understand my situation! Thanks for all the replies!

Understanding your situation is exactly what we do here. You had 9s. Now you have 10s. 10s put more tension on the neck and bridge than 9s do. You will have to adjust the guitar to compensate. Strat adjustments (floating bridge guitar adjustments, that is) are not the same as hard tail adjustments. There's a kind of see-saw effect. You'll adjust the bridge claw and then notice you need to adjust the neck so you adjust the neck but then you'll see the bridge needs adjusting again until finally you have it dialled in just the way you like it.

Remember that keeping the guitar in tune at every stage of your setup is critical for getting the best results. Even after a tiny adjustment, double check the state of tune before examining the results of your adjustment. Yes it's tedious.

While you are in the trem claw cavity try tightening only the end of the claw that is pulling on the low E end of the trem, resulting in a slightly angled claw. That will be the screw on the right when you are looking at the claw. If the spring on that end starts to rub up against the cavity wall you should stop doing that end. Putting a slight angle on the claw can help tuning stability when using the whammy bar.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Also, how many springs are there stock in a Deluxe Players Strat?
Might be wise to add one more, if you use heavier gauge strings. (There probably was an extra delivered with the guitar...)
