After taking a break from practicing today I turned on my amp to start again. Out of nowhere I get a loud hum/buzz from my amp. Unplug the guitar, no noise. Try another cord, noise. Plug in another Strat, no noise. The nut on the jack has always been loose (don't know if that matters). Help, what do you think it is?

Perhaps you've encountered a bad ground wiring issue which is one of the most common causes for the 60-cycle buzz. Faulty jack, improper soldering of the wires, electrical interference from light and poor shielding are also important factors.

Guitar jack is defective or broken ground wire on the jack .

Wich guitar ? Some Fender guitar may use cheap import jack , replace it by a Switchcraft , made in USA

Check the jack more than likely the loose nut spun and shorted out or came loose
