I have a 2012 HSS I took in on a partial trade on an amp.. Tuners suck. 2X factory paint is checking already. Pickups suck at low volume. Other then that it's a bit nicer then I expected as I only buy American or Japanese. I won't be looking for another Mexican soon.

American standards have a different truss rod then MIM standards. MIA standards can be adjusted both ways with the bi flex rod. Just one of the differences.

I have a MIA HSS, a MIM Jimmie Vaughan, and a CIJ/custom body hardtail. I can tell you that the MIA has more attention to detail as everything fit and finish wise is top notch. The JV MIM is also a very nicely finished guitar and comes standard with MIA hardware and TEX pickups. I did rewire it with cloth push back wiring, copper foil lining, and a few other goodies that probably were totally not needed. It was still a great guitar straight out of the box. The last one is a full on custom hardtail with a CIJ neck which I love. It was just something I wanted to build!

Out of these three I play the MIM JV the most followed by the hardtail and then the MIA. They are all good guitars but your always going to come back to the feel of what fits in your hands the best and one persons choice may be totally wrong for the next person. As far as sound goes, there are always things you can do to find your sounds. Anything from strings to pickups to amps, I've seen cord change sound too. Once you find it, it matters not what the label says!

MIM Stratocasters are great guitars, that's my thought. So, they are missing a fret, I just bend the string a bit more (hope it doesn't break). The neck on the MIA feels a bit more comfortable, like it's been "worn in", I think that is because of the "rolled edge" of the fret-board on the MIA's. Play your MIM for a while and it will eventually get that "worn in" feeling too. :D I also believe the material used is better on the MIA's, for example, the frets don't seem to wear (get grooves from playing) as quickly as the MIA's..maybe I just play the MIM more...lol. The poly finish on MIM looks cool to, heck, they all look cool...to me...lol

I can back up Brittb's claims about the Jimmie Vaughn Strat.I have a JV Strat and it's just an incredible guitar. The V-neck took a bit of getting used to and I'm not a fan of the bridge pup having a tone control but that's a relatively easy fix.The JV sounds just incredible,IMHO,the Tex-Mex pups are just about the best pickups that Fender has come out with since the '62 - '65 L series Strats and as a matter of fact come the closest to nailing the L series tone. The radius of the fretboard allows for big bends without fretting out, even with low action. Now that I have become accustomed to the V neck the guitar is an absolute pleasure to play and when I run it through my old JCM 800 stack,it's a perfect guitar for doing Hendrix songs on because it nails the Hendrix tone spot on. I the JV is my 3rd MIM Fender and I can state unequivocally that the MIM Fenders are way above and beyond guitars in their price range from other manufacturers and although they may not be quite up to the MIA Fenders in the quality of source woods and hardware,in no way possible does that mean that they are inferior guitars,in fact all of my MIM Fenders are exemplary guitars.
