Hi -

I bought an S-1 switch and SCN's, to semi-Deluxe-ify my '99 American Standard. The wiring of this particular doesn't seem to match anything I've been able to find in the forum posts, and I've read there are many possible variations.

Can anyone help me understand this particular configuration and how to wire it with SCN's? A photo and diagram are at the link below - thanks in advance for your effort to plow through it, any help is greatly appreciated.

Go to the source.

Here's the April 2004 Service Diagram, pg. 2 shows the wiring:

...and the April 2010 Service Diagram:

Here is a under the hood pic of my '04 Am Dlx with SCN 2 lead pups:

Yep and if it does not look like the wiring already posted you may have bought the HSS version which is wired differently to the SSS :D

Nice post, Dan.

Good point. If so, I've got photos of that harness, on my 2005 HSS with the S1. Gissa shout and I'll hunt them out.

Cheers - C

Thanks, I'd like to see those pics, and some of the outside as well. :D

2005 American Series HSS Strat with the S1 switch.

Which I notice is different to the Am Deluxe S1 HSS of the same year. There are many different ways of using the S1 switch. A good plan would be to look through the service diagrams and choose one that does the job you want.

Cheers - C

Thanks all for the detailed replies. The wiring on the switch I have looks a lot like the HSS photos, which is not good since I don't have an HSS. Duh. It wasn't specified when I bought it, but I shoulda asked...

woof633 - it's easier to follow the Service Diagram wiring detail.

There are different wiring schemes for the 04 and 10 models.

They also have a page showing what the switches will do, in each models document.

You've got a great opportunity to learn about the S-1 switch, that's a SKILL around these parts. hehe

Good Luck and post before, during and after pics for us. :)

Ceri - Thanks, a Very Nice 05 HSS Am (Std?) Strat, (Cherry Burst?).

I think you need to post (or repost) pictures of more of your guitars! Past, Present and Future!!

How many does that make now? :D

Yes - though Dan's pic shows the harness better than mine, still, I wouldn't think of trying to replicate fairly complex wiring like this from a photo. Diagrams are much better.

woof633, you probably know, but just in case you don't: the diagrams Dan linked to above come from this page -

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... e-diagrams

I think there are several other S1 configurations to be found amongst that list. Just select the one that best serves your needs and use it as your guide.

Sienna Sunburst - but that's as near to the same thing as makes no difference. :)

Nice grain on the ash, don't you think?

Ah, not so many. My guitars live in different locations, and I've never brought them all together for a herd photo. But here's a few of the S-types, both Fender and homemade -

Very nice grain on that Sienna Burst, they're all keepers.

Your guitars, and fans, would love to see a reunion.

Maybe just a pictorial spread done in the fashion of Better Homes and Guitars! :D
