I tried searching for this topic, but I couldn't find it. If this topic already exists, I would appreciate it if someone would post the link.

I just bought a 2000(I think;SN MZ0000403) standard MIM strat, and I want to know the differences between the features from year to year. How are the 90s strats different from the 2000s? Thanks in advance.

the 2006's to present are much better
in craftmanship and quality. thicker bridge block
and made with the same woods that most american strats
are made of.

dont count out the pre-upgrade MIM Strats, There was plenty of fine guitars made before then.

The extra mass of the new blocks was a plus for sure, as far the rest of the guitar, the MIM's have been a great guitar at a great price all along.

Be mindful of the fact that there a variety of different guitars which are MIM and have different specs so it may be difficult to generalize. Rather compare same models of different years..e.g. the Lone Star and the Roadhouse have been returned to market after an absence.

I agree with zzdoc. You can't lump all the MIM's together. I own a late 90s MIM Strat that is fantastic and is usually the Strat I tend to grab off the rack the most. it was a special run model that I believe they only made 500 of them. I have played a standard from the same year and sounded and played much different, not bad just different.

And remember Strats are super easy to work on. Leo did a great job making sure we could tinker with them. So if there's something you don't like on yours, upgrade the parts.

Agreed -- but the block on an older one can be cheaply and easily replaced with the new larger one.

2006 to present MIM'S standard strats alder body
same wood as some of the american strats. the necks
are cut in the USA then sent to mexico. bridge block much
thicker and theres a few more things that were done on the
MIM'S standard strat.

and lets not forget the fender ping tuners.
i like the pings much better than the vintage tuners.
the pings are faster tuneing and the pings stay in tune alot
better than the vintage tuners.

Questions:
1) What wood did the pre-2006 MIM starts have?
2) Are you saying there was also a change from vintage to ping tuners, and that the ping tuners are preferred?
