As afar as I know only SD and Dimarzio made replacement pickups prior to
1983

1) This is an old mystery pickup installed in my 1963 L-Series Stratocaster.
2) This pickup was installed before 1982, which is when I bought the guitar. The 63 had a 69 pickguard with the middle pickup also 69, with 63 body and neck.
3) The mystery pickup has 7,1k resistance.
4) The flat poles look telecaster, but the flatwork on the bottom is stratocaster flatwork.
5) I asked both Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio and both said it is not their pickup.
6) At the link below are photos.
7) The pickup is taller than a normal strat pickup.
8) Vulcanized Flatwork is used and is not plastic molded or such.

Maybe this is a Fender pickup, but I cannot remember that they made tall
ones like this with Flat Poles in the 70's. Never seen such strat pickup.

Anyone an idea.

My idea is that it might be Japanese, like Greco or something.

+1, but appears to be of decent build quality. How does it sound is the other question?

It is not too overwound, so how does it sound?

It is very well made, for sure, but I cannot remember that it sounded noticeably better than normal strat pickups.
The guy I bought this from was a knopfler nut. I think he was looking for the FS-1 sound which nobody knew back then mark used. So he got close by putting an SSL-1 in the neck, with an original 68 in the middle and this unknown thing in the bridge.
Could it maybe be a Schecter ?
I searched long ago for Schecter, but could not find anything remotely similar.
It does look like a telecaster bridge knockoff. Flush poles and very tall like tele bridge, but the bottom flatwork is plain strat flatwork.
