Hi, I just bought my first Strat, a used guitar with a good price that sounded great in the shop. It was labeled as a Classic Players 60's Stratocaster, but after doing some research, I'n not so sure.
For one, the guitar I bought is Ocean Turquoise (matched it up with the color finder on Fender.com) and has a maple fretboard. From everything I could find, the Classic Player 60's has a rosewood fretboard and does not come in that color.
I considered it could be the Classic Players 50's, because of the maple, but that guitar does not come in Ocean Turquoise either.
Here are some pics of the guitar, it has aged knobs pickguard and was made in Mexico (MZ7 serial). Appreciate in advance any help, thanks! (Also, I apologize for the bad lighting in the photos)

Looks like a Standard Stratocaster to me (due to the modern tuners).
Either that or it could be some sort of franken-strat.

I don't think that is a 50's or 60's classic player. The tuning keys look to be the modern version instead of the "vintage" ones. I have a 50's classic player and the plate where the neck attaches to the body says "Custom Shop Designed".

A classic 50's strat also doesn't have a 3-ply pickguard.

I don't think it is what you think it is . I go with the Frankin strat. The
tuners are not correct for sure.

Lol, well at least it's somewhat unique. The only thing I could find that looks similar is the American Vintage '57 - except I don't think they build those in Mexico. Also, it looks like the vintage '57 has a 3-way pickup selector and mine has a 5-way.

it is an Fender standard strat all the pieces fit the colour fretboard and the fender logo that you just find on the standards and the tuners + the bridge shows that it is a standard.......

I agree, after comparing to some pics it does appear to be a standard. the only thing that still throws me is I cannot find a standard strat that comes in ocean turquoise. ideas?

Guitars are often produced in unlisted colours for that particular model (ie. Special runs, etc.). So that could be your case.

Yeah I agree it is probably just a limited color run of a Standard Strat. The Musicians Friend Distro and Clearance Center is here in KC, hey always have unusual strat color runs and combos out on the floor. Also a lot of smaller ma and pa stores try to order limited colors runs from Fender and other companies as a draw from the GC's and other chain stores.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I'm still new to this whole thing. Anyway, one last question: do the standards come with ceramic or alnico pups?

Hello LordClyde,

Its a Mexican standard
I had one nearly identical.

Call fender customer relations
and give them the serial number
and they'll tell you the exact name
for that color. The name escapes me.

Great looking guitar. Best of luck with it.

Cheers.

You no it could be a Warmoth Strat body. You can buy them painted a
blue just like that. The only way you would no is to take the neck off
and take a look. You say it does not have original pups in it. It
would not be the first Warmoth body with a Fender neck.
