The Am Std is not a 60th ann model either.

This true, but a good friend of mine has just bought a FSR Am Standard and it does have a 60th anniversary neck plate.

This is one of the guitars in the run

Hi Shimmilou - yep, that's the same guitar as mine other than the sticker!! (I can say "check" to all the good things listed that define the 60th Anniv. Strat).

I've emailed fender to seek their opinions. I think some bod has put the wrong stickers on a batch of guitars and then probably had to raise a "non conformance report" ....

Nice! Yeah, you never know what they will do with the FSR. I think that I would like the Aztec gold version better. :D

Speed reading your reply "Shimmy" I saw "...the Aztec God version better."

Interesting.....

I'd LIKE an Aztec God Strat!!

Done in Raised Gilding (Gold Leaf) :!: :?: :!:

Bygone Arts has a good article on gilding with a gesso substrate, although how well it would adhere to urethane is a likely question. Still the concept is valid. Probably better done on an unfinished/sealed body.

http://bygonearts.com/archives/86

...As I mentioned in my last post, I’m learning how to use gold leaf with a technique called raised gilding. The cool thing about raised gilding is that the gold leaf is, well, raised – it is 3-D, so the light really glints off the gold. Photographs don’t do it justice – if you ever have an opportunity to see raised gilding in any context, you really have to see it in person to see how shiny it is.

What makes raised gilding work is the Gesso a mixture of white lead, slaked plaster, and glue (along with a few other ingredients) that holds the gold leaf to the page...

OOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOO :D

I guess, even though listed under the American Standard series section, since it does not contain those terms in its description, it is not... :?:  :?:

Yeah the Commemorative is a mix of features, part Deluxe, part Am Std, but not quite either. I like it. :D

Reply received from the Fender CSC:

"This seems like an error on the part of the sticker people. The guitar is similar in some spec to the deluxe and maybe this has caused it to be stickered up wrong. If the pickups don’t say N3 on them then you will be fine. "

Well, they are both Fenders and made of wood and have 6 strings.....but

[alder/ash] body
[locking versus non locking "perloid" colour] machine heads
[chrome/gold] hardware
[N3 marked with s1 switching /plain '54 special design no markings] pups
[no commemorative logo on reverse/circular inlaid disc and neckplate logo]

maybe I'm being a little unfair but I think what has happened is that someone has put the wrong transfer on and thought "damn it - huh, I can't be bothered to change 'em"

So take the sticker off and throw it away.

I honestly don't see how this thread has been spread over two pages.

Take the sticker off. Throw it away. Get on with your life. Find something else to worry about.

^^^^Seriously.

The first thing I do once I'm sure I'm keeping a guitar is strip off all the plastic film on the pickguard, back plates, etc. If you leave it on, it gets gummy, and if it's been left out in the open you'll get "shadows" from where those stickers were placed.

Regarding the original topic - I do recall seeing a few of the Anniversary models with American Deluxe stickers on them a few months ago. I just assumed that someone stuck the wrong sticker on a batch or two (maybe Fender even ran out of the gold ones they were supposed to be using so these were used until the right ones were reprinted). As I say since I remove that film pretty much as soon as I commit to not returning it I didn't pay that much attention.

I really hate to keep this one going, but I was in our local Guitar Center last night and sure enough the one 60th Anniversary American Strat they have in stock has the blue American Deluxe sticker instead of the gold Anniversary sticker. I know they've had it for a while; probably been hanging there since late May/early June.

It is good to know. Really, this is just the continuing Fender tradition of this sort of thing. Leo started it with the incorrect tube charts on some amps. Missing country of origin markings here and there for guitars, occasionally changing the name of an amp, a mistake on a schematic or two, mislabeling the switch positions on a Strat, pictures of guitars with the wrong parts/decals, etc. I think that Fender just wants to keep us on our toes.

I bought the 60th anniversary strat in febuary it didn't have a sticker at all.
I also didn't get the book, but there's no way I'm taking it back.
