My 2014 60th Anniversary Strat came with a blue sticker attached which claims that the guitar is an "American Deluxe - with N3 pick ups/ upgraded moulded case / locking nuts".

But the 60th Anniversary Strat doesn't have N3s, comes in a tweed case and doesn't have locking nuts!

I found two youtube reviews of the 60th Anniversary Strat (one German/one Japanese) - same guitar and same incorrect blue sticker.

Did fender simply run out of stickers or apply the wrong ones?

I doubt the Sticker is applied at Fender, the Pickguards are shipped with these already attached from the supplier.

It's most likely that:

a.) Fender is using the same Pickguard for each and a separate Sticker wasn't produced.

b.) They temporarily ran out of the correct ones, so used the PGs w/ Am. Dlx. stickers.

c.) The Assembly Worker reached for the wrong Bin.

Just an insignificant glitch given that you should remove the Sticker and the protective plastic sheet over the Pickguard immediately anyway to prevent the PG from becoming discolored.

cheers!

I don't agree, don't know where the blue sticker is applied and it doesn't matter.

The guitars are being shipped to retail outlets for individual sales and that sticker would be misleading information, especially to the un-informed.

Maybe it's not many, but there seems to be a trend from what monabri is saying.

Wait a durn second, did they have a close-up on the videos? Could it be only the same color?

We need PROOF.

That's proof, although I couldn't make out detail on the german video (ex. 1) it was pretty clear on the closeup of the Pups and sticker in ex. 2.

There are quite a few 60th Anniv. Strat owners on this forum. Care to chime in?

If an un-informed buys a Guitar of this level and expense merely on the basis of what a Pickguard Sticker says,... they deserve what they get.

To quote Dean Wormer: "... Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son..." :!:

cheers!

"caveat emptor" and all that but a lot on people buy guitars online from reputable dealers and when their guitar arrives, I think it is ok that they can ask fellow enthusiasts for their opinion. Often (usually), their advertising pictures are from standard libraries.

The original question was "why does a 60th Anniv. Strat have a sticker on it claiming it is a Deluxe?"

I did note there was at least one forum member (RobertoCarlosMX - posted April 3rd 2014) who showed a picture of his new 60th and it too had the same blue sticker.

I'm trying to think of a time when I even read the sticker before buying a guitar.

It's a non-issue. Take the sticker off, throw it away, find something more important to think about.

There are only four 60th Anniversary models, and the Deluxe isn't one of them. Even though most Strats made in 2014 will have some indication on them of the 60th Ann, whether badge or sticker, not all are 60th Ann models. Seems that yours is not a 60th Ann model.

The op mentions the tweed case and alludes to non locking tuners.
If they are perloid and the guitar is 2TS with gold trim then it is possibly a 60th and the sticker is due to one of the reasons you've already mentioned Lightnin MN.
Yep there certainly is confusion when it comes to true anniversary models and those having just a badge or something for the anniversary year!
How about some photos?
More likely something funny going on at Fender :D

Yes, let's see what we are discussing before deciding who did what. If the guitar is a Deluxe, end of story, not an ann model, correct sticker.

My 60th Ann Commemorative (gold sticker).

I encountered the same thing when I went to look at, and then later purchased, my 60th Anniversary American Standard Strat. Specifically, upon reading the label, noted it did not have the locking tuning machines. I brought that to the attention of the GC sales person, who had not noticed that before. I left the store, but upon returning a few days later, to purchase the guitar, found the label had been removed. I also did not realize, until seeing pictures of other such strats posted, that it did not have the 60th Anniversary label. Apparently, there is (was) some inconsistancy in applying labels at the factory.
