About a month ago I posted something about a '75 Sunburst Strat with rosewood finger board. Anyway, I traded a few guitars and one amp for this guitar that I knew needed to be refretted and needed a new nut.

After about 2 weeks, I picked up from Philtone Guitars in Baltimore, MD. Phil Jacoby did an amazing job of making a bone nut from a blank, refretting the guitar and setting it up using a PLEK. For about $300, I am very happy.

What I love about Phil's work is the fact that he is a craftsmen. He really cares about his customers and their needs. The guitar plays and sounds wonderful. The nut itself is a thing of beauty.

If you ever need quality work done, it's worth the time and money to have him do the work.

Since I got the guitar home, I haven't been able to put it down. The pickups have that Strat "Snap" and the neck is a dream. I really love the old school nitro clear coat over poly finish (I know that sounds wierd, but it's just as stated. I asked around and read about it. Fender did do this), and the over all vibe of this guitar screams vintage Fender. I've owned and sold '70s era Strats before. Some are awful. Usually it comes from about 3 areas: loose neck pockets (fixable), nasty pickups, or thick finishes that kill sound. This guitar sounds, plays, looks and feels wonderful.

I also own a blonde '76 Strat I really like, but the '75 is better.

Phil is one of the best! When I know I'm going to pass through Baltimore I drop off the guitar and pick it up on the return trip. It can't be easier. He brings the best out in a guitar. Enjoy your Strat.

I don't know when you were last in to see him, but he has moved to another location in Baltimore. The shop is much bigger, he has more help, and he's able to get more work finished.

Heck of a nice guy who puts in the extra effort. When you see or talk with him next, ask him if he would like a Yankees hat. I almost got him one for his birthday.
