unlike the "other" thread from the past, this one is fairly educational.

One of my guys told me about a call today and the "Gruhn" answer (which isn't a bad idea)
As for the "Endorsement" on ebay, it is as i stated earlier in this thread. In addition, it is a quote contained in a private email where (I believe) the usual confidentiality notices are given at the end of the email.

Anyway, I digress. I like the knowledge being set forth on this thread.

Cheers
rob

What's with the little yellow tag in the trem cavity, under the Tremsetter, having the #12 written on it, not present in a later pic with the hardware removed :?:  :?

Hey Doc, it was there all along until the guitar was partly stripped (see below). These guitars are obvious fakes. Poor guys at Fender do not know what to do as there are liabilities to saying anything one way or another, without having the guitar in hand. My Auzzie friend and I have had people who are as respected as "Gruhn" who live locally. Nick Shilling is the luthier who look at my Blue body (which never existed by the way). This guy is really well known all over the pacific North West. In fact a lot of people look at me that way as well when it come to Strat Plus guitars! The only problem is, I was duped this time. And now I saw the light!

But to give you an example of how these stickers react to the urethane when it dries, look at the trem route of this Strat in REAL Firestorm.

Now look at this FAKE:

and again, the READ DEAL!

I've never seen a body cavity tagged like that. Have you?

Yes, but not that common. Usually those round stickers will be in the pickup route area and will often be under the color coat as well as the clear coat. I am working on content for a new thread which will help people spot a fake so "They Don't Get Fooled Again." (The Who????) Note how nice and flat that sticker lays down? On a real fender finish those things are curled up do to the thickness of the urethane finish, because when it drys on paper, it shrinks. Good eye there Doc!

This is getting good, sorry for your loss. So this is why I only buy new from reputable music stores as when I was looking to buy on ebay and especially CL I got suspicious that some of these guitars were not real then I found out about Wholesale Guitar - TradeTang.com and there add said manufactured in China and stamped right on there Fender's and Gibson's were made in USA and I thought to myself I am not an expert in fraudulent guitars and there are too many unscrupulous sellers out there I just could not chance it. I paid full price and as I walk out of the store my guitar deprecated $300 to $400 but I own a real AM Stat that I love and never questioned its origin

.....and if you ever happen to swap out that guitar in trade, it will magically appreciate 100% over the amount you were credited for it towards the new acquisition.

I am surprised that eBay seller "maget0" is still trying to pass off his guitar as a genuine Firstorm even though he has admitted buying it from tenstarguitars (Rod Essex).
Unfortunately for him, it is nothing more than a FAKE reproduction but the guy is either in denial or simply arrogant and wants to off load it onto another unsuspecting buyer.
I have reported the listing to eBay and I know others have as well but for some unknown reason it's still there. Here is the link for those who wish to see it for themselves but beware, it's not a genuine Fender Firestorm finish!!! The more complaints eBay receives about this the better to ensure this does not end up in someone else's lap.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/231265428757?ss ... 1423.l2649

I sent a email to the seller asking him if he would give me a written warranty that this guitar was real. All he did was point out his email from Fender customer relations. I just ignored him then. Now I get a second email from him saying he just got off the phone with customer relations and said they suggested he get George Gruhn's opinion. Said that it was going to cost him money but he was going to do that and he hoped it was real, yeah right.

This guy (maget0) will say and do anything to "dump" his guitar. He knows it's a FAKE but hasn't got the decency to withdraw it from eBay or at least disclose that the finish is "questionable" and let the buyer decide if they still want it. I for one took a massive hit on mine by "stripping" the finish, but it was the only way you all could see what this shyster (tenstarguitars aka Rod Essex) is up to. I wonder whether maget0 will engage George Gruhn for an appraisal but I seriously doubt it! I think it's yet another diversion but George Gruhn should be made aware of this discussion.

hiya jkaus,
My understanding: appraising/authenticating is something that Gruhn and others do for a fee. Gruhn is named just because they're probably the best known.
So the advice from our phone guy(s) goes along the lines of a suggestion to check with someone LIKE Gruhn. Someone who, as part of their business, offers these types of services. ......and if they don't or didn't say it that way......they should.
To me personally, a luthier with lots of knowledge and experience with the instruments is just as likely to provide good information (good to authenticate THAT knowledge and experience as well)

All the best,
rob

I decided to tell everyone that I got ripped off by Rod Essex (Tenstarguitars). I first won a fake Firestorm Body on Ebay and I had a lot of doubt but the story Rod told me I thought was true. So he told me he had a Blue one from the same place so I bought it when I got it I had a lot of doubt because of the smell of paint . So I emailed Rod many time and he said they were real and after all that he said he a Firestorm Ultra so I bought I know I was dumb. When I got the Ultra I knew deep down they were fake and all three had the same paint smell. So when I notice I had the tags of a guitar I didn't have I knew for sure. I have emailed Rod Essex many times and asked him to setup and do the right thing but he wont respond back me. Im working legal matters now which I wont get into on here. I do feel everyone is not getting the point and that is to stop Rod [img]Image[/img]Image[img]

And I thought I had the only blue one! I just don't get how this guy can paint so many guitars with this finish, sell them, and not think he is going to get caught? It is obvious now as all these guitar are coming out of the wood work that one person could not "find" this many of these in such a short time, unless they are coming from his garage. He needs to be banned from eBay. I am conferring with a lawyer too. He told me two stories of where he picked up these guitars, and then he told Jeremy (goodinbed) different stories. It all does not add up, except for the fact he has been busy painting guitars! Thanks for sharing Jeremy!

Hey goodinbed, nice to hear from you but really sorry that you have been dupped as well. I was always under the impression that only one blue (aka Ice Storm) existed but alas there are two. My guess is that there are probably more out there which is really worrying. This guy Rod Essex is spineless and obviously has no morals. I have done some basic research on tenstarguitars eBay sales history and it's quite astonishing that he's had access to so many rare colors.
Jan 12 - Aug 12 (9 Strat Plus and Ultra's, mainly vintage colors inc my FireStorm)
Jun 13 - Dec 13 (6 Strat Plus' - Taos Turq, Surf Green, Shell Pink, Bahama Green)
Feb 14 - Jul 14 (4 Strat Plus' - Shell Pink, Fiesta Red, Surf Green, Bahama Green)
Quite amazing don't you think? My photo evaluation of these guitars are that they are all FAKES! All looked very dull but surprisingly were in mint condition - how convenient and all had no 'yellowing', typical on older genuine guitars. See xhefri's explanation on Spotting a Fake.

That really is quite unfortunate. This is why I stay away from eBay. Who knows what is up behind the scenes. I do have to admit, although they are way off from the real thing, the guy did a decent job. Perhaps he should stop all this faking, and start a guitar Finishing service?
