Hi Xhefri,

Yeh..i went back through some price lists and my recollection is that they just got the color numbers wrong since all US models (except exports) came with case (7 or 8 ).
Looks like they got it right in January 1990. Below is the first appearance of the Firestorm finish from January 1, 1991 price list

Cheers!

Hi folks,
just for the record----
just a little something below which i put together to help new folks here, since I find that numbers are easier to work with if they actually mean something. The color number for Firestorm Red was 78-----since it came with a case -778 if it came with a deluxe case (as the ultras did) 878 etc.
Anyway---for your viewing pleasure-----not a bible but a basic guide:

Rob, thanks for the info. I have a couple of genuine Ultra's and the model numbers on the tags are 10-9800 xxx. Is there a code for 'ebony' or is '00' the standard?
Cheers.

I am surprised that eBay seller "maget0" is still trying to pass off his guitar as a genuine Firstorm even though he has admitted buying it from tenstarguitars (Rod Essex).
Unfortunately for him, it is nothing more than a FAKE reproduction but the guy is either in denial or simply arrogant and wants to off load it onto another unsuspecting buyer.
I have reported the listing to eBay and I know others have as well but for some unknown reason it's still there. Here is the link for those who wish to see it for themselves but beware, it's not a genuine Fender Firestorm finish!!! The more complaints eBay receives about this the better to ensure this does not end up in someone else's lap.

@rob

Icestorm Blue was a colour option for the Tele Pluses and Deluxe Pluses as far I can tell.

Xhefri posted a photo of an Icestorm Blue Strat Plus long time ago though I doubt if the colour was also available in the Fender colour chart nor if a Strat ever existed in that finish.

Hiya Chromeface,
Ice Blue?...check. Ice Blue Metallic?...check. I see no Icestorm Blues in any of the price lists I've looked at which would be 1989 through 1994. I STILL never say never....Plenty of Firestorms...even found it on a bass. No Icestorms though.
Just for fun, since I was asearchin'....

I am nothing short of astounded as to the kinds of goings on, in so many quarters, that this one guitar finish has been responsible for.

Later today I will be posting a Fake finish made my Rod (tenstarguitars) in Shell Pink. The buyers (it was bought from mr10star off EBAY) and then sold off REVERB to another guy. Both have been in touch with me and sent pictures. I will show you the fake finish side by side with a real finish. Easy to tell the difference. So many people have emailed me through my website saying, "How is it his guy on eBay (tenstarguitars) find so many rare finishes???" Well, we know now. They are back yard refinish job in lacquer! Will be talking with my lawyer today. Just got off the phone with eBay and they are looking over the evidence as well.

Feel free to enumerate exactly what the visual differences in the finishes are, to help out those of us trying to judge from photos on a screen.

What I can see is the length, shape and vector(s) of the black streaks. The real ones all seem to have streaks which are truncated by other overlapping streaks going in different directions whereas the fakes have streaks which are long unbroken lines from centre to edge.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Since this question was raise by Mr C and KTM has commented, I would like to show some obvious pictures side by side. The differences are night and day. The REAL finish is very 3-dementional. It has a thick foil base of some sort with black on top and then many coats of transparent red, similar to what one would see on a candy color like Midnight Wine. The FAKE finish is a red base coat with some black streaks shot on it then clear coated. Very flat 2-dementional looks. Pictures tend to make them look kind-of the same. But they are drastically different! I am waiting for "I TOLD YOU SO!" Look carefully:

I did, and unfortunately I saw your work bench under the FAKE one.

If YOU can get taken in, it can happen to anybody.

Thanks for the expose.

I sent a email to the seller asking him if he would give me a written warranty that this guitar was real. All he did was point out his email from Fender customer relations. I just ignored him then. Now I get a second email from him saying he just got off the phone with customer relations and said they suggested he get George Gruhn's opinion. Said that it was going to cost him money but he was going to do that and he hoped it was real, yeah right.
