Was hoping someone could give me some opinions. I want to buy a Vintage 65 or Design my own Vintage Strat. How is the quality of the Design your own? I cannot find any reviews or info on it. The 65 seems awesome in the reviews. Any info would be great.
Thanks

That would depend on what you want.

If you want a 65 buy a 65 if the 65 doesn't meet your requirements design your own.

For me I can't live with a 7.25" radius neck so a build your own with a 65 body and an american standard neck would have appeal.

I like 60s style pickups but I could see the value in going build your own if you wanted noiseless or texas specials.

The 65 is at the top of the american pricelist and you are getting close to custom shop money so you could also think about about going that route, many custom shop 60s strats have 9.5" radius necks and fatter frets for example.

My reason for vintage is that I want a 7.25 radius. Either guitar would meet my needs. I really need some info on build quality, I cannot get my hands on either one. The price for the build ur own is $700 less but I am concerned that the quality will be not there.
Anyway thanks for your time.

Are you talking about the Fender design experience? Right now even their "Vintage style bodies" have poly finishes and are not nitrocellulose like the 65 AVRI if that makes a difference to you.

Yes I am. Not so concerned about the nitro finish. Really just about the quality. I know the 65 has great quality but I am not sure about the design experience.
thanks

Well they are practically the same parts, put together by the same employees here in the USA, so I wouldn't imagine it be that much different in terms of quality, no more than individual strats of the same series differ from each other.
