Hey Fender-Team,
you did a really good job in doin, such a corporation with Roland.
I was in studio this week and I just needed my VG Strat, to record my guitar parts and double a few riffs.
I'm really glad to have one.

Greetings from Germany :D

I have had one for about a year now. I like it very much, BUT, I hate having the batteries die on me when I'm playing. I always have spares, but I am really gun-shy because of the fear of it dying on me when I'm in the modeling modes. For $1,700, I think this is a design flaw that needs to be corrected. Anyone else have this concern?

It might be a concern, but I've never heard a single complaint about it. I wouldn't call it a design flaw. I mean who would gig without fresh batteries installed first?

I like this guitar not for the aspect that I'll have a chance to get one (leftie...yeah yeah, I know) but the fact that it was made with Roland...

And man, I am really sold on a lot of their hardware. Especially their portable amps. I haven't touched my acoustic in months....

I use rechargeables, but it seems like everytime I take this guitar out to a gig or to a practice, the blue light goes out on me. And, I check the batteries beforehand or make sure I recharge the ones that I put in. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I primarily grab the 50th Anniversary when I leave the house because of its dependability. I might check with Fender support about this and see if this is normal.

I'm guessing it's just 5V needed to power it. I'm wondering if maybe a belt worn power supply with a 1/8th inch plug might be nice addition to the design?

I have played the VG for approx. a month, no venues, just practicing for about an hour or two a day. I use 2000mah rechargeables (Eneloop). So far, I have only had to recharge once. Also when the blue light starts to fade on and off, I still have played for a couple of days before it goes out totally. I have a very new production model, the blizzard pearl white (only 479 made). 90 % of the time I have the modeling on, set to "S" and "12". I just love that sound and its great for most of my mellow tunes I practice to.

However, I did not really buy the VG for its Roland electronics. I played several different Strat models, from EJ signatures to the American Deluxe HSS and only the VG had the "feel" for me. It seemed to play faster, smoother (maple fretboard) and it just felt good. The electronics were the bonus. The VG's natural sound (just using the 3 single Alnico coils) even sounded better than the S.Cobalt coils of the HSS to my ears. The single coils in the EJ (Eric Johnson) model did have a tone that appealed to my ears and I think I would have purchased that model if the neck was finished like the VG. The neck and maple fretboard on the VG made all of the difference. I knew it was the one.

Tried the VG at a guitar store in Sacramento, CA. Couldn't get a sound. Turns out the batteries were dead in 2 and none in the 3rd. When I finally got one working, I liked the open tuning feature but I need to work with it to get a less manufactured sound. Nice neck and great possibilities, but a little pricey for a part time slide player.
