Hello,
I have a simple question. Can someone tell me the neck shape of my 2005 Amer. Deluxe Strat? New ones from Fender say Modern C, but I want to be certain regarding my 2005.

My understanding is the Fender Strat Handbook has that information, but I don't have the handbook.

Thanks for any response!

2004 and 2006 were modern C, 9.5" radius.
So I see no reason why 2005 between those would be different, bigger changes (compound radius) came in 2010 if my memory is right.

In general, this kind of questions can usually be solved by contacting consumerrelations@fender.com with the serial number.

jmattis is correct about when the radius changed to the compound radius.

However - since 2004 there has also been an American Deluxe V-neck Strat model; so thadc your question isn't quite that simple.

Tell us more about your Strat (or post photos) - all the models except the V-neck did of course have the modern C neck. The American Deluxe V-neck should be easy to spot - they only come with a maple fingerboard, and in the 2004-2009 time frame it came in 3 color combinations: candy apple red with a gold vinyl pickguard, blonde (over alder, not ash) also with the gold pickguard, or 2-color burst with a single-ply mint green pickguard.

Thanks for the replies. I am sure it is not a v neck, as it is a rosewood fingerboard, and John C shared that only maple fingerboard strats were made in those years with a v neck.

I am slightly puzzled by that fact I have two guitars with identical neck shape (Modern C), radius (9.5"), and frets (medium jumbo), but the Strat feels slower and chunkier. I guess its the fact that the second guitar (2008 Nashville B Bender Tele) has a satin finish and maple fingerboard, and the Strat has the rosewood fingerboard and some type of poly finish on the neck.

In other words, at least for the kind of stuff I play, the quickness of the tele neck is preferable.

Thanks!

The honey blonde V-neck Deluxes from that era came with a copper vinyl pickguard. Copper is a tad darker than gold.

This guitar also existed in black with a gold vinyl guard.

In total the available colours for this model were 4.

The American Deluxe V-Neck in its present form is offered in 3 finishes (Fiesta Red, 2-Colour Sunburst, Surf Green) with a 3-ply aged mint pickguard.

I know it sounds cliche'....but I swear......after thousands of guitars.....every one of them feels just a touch different than another.......could just be me......but I ain't that good, (really!)

All the best,

IMHO, a satin finish neck offers less inertia to the playing hand. Tha's why my go to guitar is usually my Claptons. My other guitars all have gloss finish necks. You recall that on one model, Fender offers a neck finished gloss on the face, and satin on the back. Must be a good technical reason for that.

My favourite Strat is my 1988 with a thick poly coat on the back. Zero inertia, feels absolutely superb to me. Never understood why anyone feels the need to sand the finish off a neck.

Are you saying that a 'satin finish' neck is obtained by doing a gloss finish first, and then sanding it back? Sounds like double the labor to me.

Anyway, different strokes.

My guess is it was a marketing thing :!:

I have played all types, lacquer, satin, gloss poly, you name it and I think it is just a personal preference, don't think any one type works better than the other.

Interesting. Then what exactly is it that defines the personal preference?
