So I was shocked when I picked up the Classic Player 60's in Sonic Blue at GC today. The neck felt perfect. I loved it so much that I drove 40 minutes home to grab my John Mayer Sig to A/B the two... Suddenly my 6105 frets felt too sharp and the neck felt just a bit too fat. I really just wanted to switch necks in the shop and hope nobody would notice

Although I could just order a replacement neck on Ebay for $350, I really want to spec out this neck and put in a custom order from Warmoth or another luthier (nothing like premium flame maple and vintage toner, yummy)!

1) Does anyone know the exact specs of this neck? Fender is notoriously vague and inconsistent on this website. What does "C" shaped and "medium jumbo" mean these days anyway?

2) Does anyone have a better recommendation for a custom neck luthier?

Thanks

You should check with Fender first, since there Mexican made, they could be as low as 195.00 for a replacement neck from them.

BTW, if you decide your going to replace your neck, I would like to make on offer on it, I love 6105's.

You're right.. the Classis Players in Sonic Blue is a beauty. I believe the Classic Player's 60's actually has a 12 inch radius. And even though they both have C shaped necks, the JM is a thick C compared to what might be called a regular C in the Classic Players. The Classic Players meium jumbo frets are what Fender uses on the Standard American start... very low and wide. To me they are the easiest frets to play. Because the John Mayer neck is so much thicker (and the frets are so much higher). its 9.5 neck actually feels flatter that the Classic Players.

I just bought that 60th anniversary guitar. My opinion it is totally awesome! There is something about that neck that seems to be better than the rest. I could definitely tell the difference from the other strats!

i've had the same reaction to my C/P '60s (also Sonic Blue) due to the combination of neck, 12" FBr m/j frets & CS '69 p'ups.
since March it's been my go-to of 20+ guitars, most costing a good bit more than the C/P.
it seems to be my "perfect storm" of a guitar !

gave it its' "6 month setup checkup" this morning, and put my tools back up un-used.
not even a tweak was needed !
