Hey all.

I've got a couple of strats that have the no-load tone pot on them. I really like it. I have another strat where it has HSS config and one volume one tone. I wondered what would be likely to happen if I fitted a no load pot to both the tone and volume positions? Would a no-load pot work as a volume, if so would any cap etc... need altered?

Just I really like it on my strats and wanted to mod this one and thought I'd ask for advice.

So what do you think?

What a wonderful and fresh idea - sorry I'm "electrically impaired" so I can't give you a straight answer.

The web has some info on this, but the results are inconclusive:
Some say it results in no sound when the pot is maxxed to 10.
Some wonder this, saying they've done this using the standard wiring diagram - and it works...

A simple way to do this would be to bypass the vol pot with a flip switch. I recall having such in a single pickup archtop; years ago.

One answer would be to rewire the guitar like the AmDlx HSS (011-9100-706), but
a) That "passing lane" switch engages the bridge pickup only, vol and tone maxxed (bypassed), and
b) The Wiring Diagram is a real mess, and went wrong even for Fender staff the first time.

But: I hope that, as usual, when one bad answer is posted, the Wizards of the Forum step up and correct & give the right answers.

BTW, on the part number 0990832000 product page it's listed as "250K No Load Split Shaft Potentiometer (Volume or Tone)".

Thanks jmattis,

I saw that on the part number saying it was volume/tone which is what made me wonder if it were possible. I'll maybe ask my tech and see what he says. Would be interesting to see the results... :?

Ferengo ,

A no load tone pot is a pot with a "open circuit " spot on the pot's resistance.

At this position guitar pickup is not connected to the tone circuit . On regular tone pot , pickups see anytime the tone circuit , more or less.

IMO If you use it for volume , you may ear more brightness and more volume ( ? ). I never test it

Thanks for the link.

I added one into the neck tone pot of one of my strats. Makes a nice addition there.

One thing I did notice. If I'm correct on the parts diagram for the 2012 strat it lists the delta tone as the volume pot but has a different part code.
