Picked this up yesterday just by chance. Wasn't looking but seemed to be a reasonable deal for a Strat.

Will need to do three posts to complete images.

Serial E814xxx
Fender 5 6 2 and a red capital E or F
Head stock D ST - 562- F
Pots M250K♎️or. M250KQ

That is not a 62' reissue, nothing about that is from a 62', that has 22 frets, micro tilt neck, Kahler locking trem, modern tuners, modern decal, pots, pickups, switch, case, ect.

This is a joke, right?
You're pulling our legs?

If that is supposed to be IceBlueMetallic it's not a very good approximation, but that wouldn't matter anyway since that colour wasn't introduced until 1965, IIRC.

A Kahler trem on a '62? That's a neat trick. Weren't they first produced in '79 or thereabouts?

And what's going on with that selector switch? That's supposed to represent what was used in 1962?

I think it' a pretty safe bet this is not a '62 re-issue from 1988 or any other year.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

No, it's definitely not any kind of reissue and it's not even a USA model.

It's one of those MIJ "Contemporary Standards" from 1988/89ish that had no "country of origin" sticker on it but used the Kahler Spyder tremolo (earlier versions did say "Made in Japan" and either had a System 1 trem or a Kahler 2520 "Traditional" trem depending on the year).

Lots of discussion on this "no country of origin" version here on the "Eighties Stratocaster Identity Crisis" thread:

The seller thought it may have been a 62 reissue and not knowing posed the question here.

Yes it seems so. I hope it is worth what I paid LOL

Mods feel free to move to the appropriate thread.

E+6 digits puts it roughly to 1984-1987.
The color is probably "Transparent Blue".
That number on the pickup bottom: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=66937
Tremolo setup: https://www.google.fi/#q=kahler+spyder+tremolo+setup

JoshwaBurke (John C's link, page 19) just got his for 100$ (+ the price of mods), usually these should sell for somewhere ' round 300-800...
But: these MIJ's are very nice guitars - just remember what was going on in the MIA's of that era. And it's a Fender, so the topic is in the right place

(Lots of theories for that no-country-of-origin... Not many bring up the "lost MIJ sticker", though.)

G'day Treyson. They're going for about $450 US.

I see you found this thread - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50058
Please add to the thread with information and photos. We've got 19 pages of this exact model, with new owners regularly turning up. They're from 1988.

Goodonya ...Mark.

Fine, except that it is E8. And being Japanese, doesn't necessarily mean 1988-1989 either.

The OP wrote "E814xxx" = E plus the first three of total six digits...
No E8 plus any number of digits in MIJ's...

Well the first digit after the "E" could certainly be an "8"; it just doesn't "decode" to a specific year. And that's part of the oddball nature of these guitar - they have the MIJ "E" serial number but they were made 1-2 years after the "rule of thumb" years the "E" serial numbers were used by FujiGen.

I cleaned it up and once the new strings were stretched out and dialed in, I locked the nut down and banged and bended away and she stayed spot on.

Market value / perception be it as it may, this is on nice guitar. At least I know it wasn't " ghost made". :)
