as I was watching crossroads '10 tonight, I noticed sonny landreth has a tele-style bridge on his strat. don't know how I missed that.

anybody know the story behind it? never saw this on a strat before, and has me curious about the reason for it.

Sonny has many of his Strats fitted with a Tele-Tail bridge plate; his guitars usually sport a DiMarzio Fast-Track 1 in the bridge position though I've seen a photo of him cradling his black American Standard with an HHH configuration (Fast-Track 1 & 2 in bridge and neck, Chopper in the middle).

As many times as I've seen him play, is as many times as he's used a different guitar. I believe he's constantly exploring the sonic possibilites of designs and circuitry. Helluva player. If you don't own any of his recordings, it's time.

YES... and NO...

I've known Sonny for better than 25 years and have seen him play literally dozens of times.

If not friends, we're certainly acquaintances.

Just saw him last month at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA... Yes... that Surf Ballroom. Sonny spotted me and Mrs. LMN in the crowd, and waved us backstage.

Several times I've asked him about his guitars, especially since I took it up, and he generally replies in a very nonchalant fashion that he really doesn't know. That his Guitar Tech comes up with something, or Fender sends him something and if he likes it, he plays it.

He's not all about experimenting w/ every combination under the Sun, he's about Playing.

I hate to tell you this, but the Magic is in his fingers... not in his Axe.

cheers!

You've pretty much supported my contentions. Thanks.
