I have a mim reverse headstock strat that is stock from the factory. I ordered a steel trem block upgrade from gfs for an mim vintage bridge but on recieving it and coming to fit it the mounting holes don't line up. I looked up some string spacing measurement differences and found that the spacing on the my mim bridge is actually mia spacing 11.3mm n not the standard 10.5mm. The confusion I have is although it's a mia string spacing block I need the trem arm hole is still slightly forward of the block mounting screws instead of inline like the mia. I'm completely confused. Do I need a mia string spaced block for an mim bridge with mim trem arm hole positioning or do I just need a standard mia block. Heeeelp! :(

The trem arm holes often don't line up exactly. Put the trem arm through the bridge plate, screw the arm into the block and then put in the block mounting screws.

Ahh I see. So do mim strats not all have a standard spacing. Why is mine an American spacing?

It depends on the model/year. The Standard Strat (MIM) used to exclusively use the smaller string spacing on the six-screw vintage style bridge (2-1/16"). Now there are many more MIM models that use the same wider spacing as a MIA vintage style bridge (2-7/32").

So rather than look for a mim steel block with mia spacing I just need to get an actual mia steel block?

Interesting game they played with the string spacing on the south of the border guitars, isn't it? I would suspect that it had something to do with preventing misrepresentation of those guitars in any aftermarket transactions as US built.

This "diddling" actually commenced with the Asian-built imports.

And not all of the MIM Strats feature the "mini-bridge".

Check the Callaham site list of block sizes for various models. For MIA and MIM, there are only the two spacings that I mentioned.

My Strat Classic Series 50s have a U.S. spacing, the middle of the picture, while not a Standart MIM, bottom photo

AFAIK, since 2006 the Classic Series, which the 60's reverse headstock was an FSR, have used the Ping (Taiwan/China) manufactured bridge, Fender p/n 005-4619-000, Vintage Classic Series, 2 3/16" string spacing, 2 7/32" 6 screw. Also known as the 'big block'.

Not to be confused with p/n 007-1014-000 Mexican Standard Series & Blacktop, big block, zinc, 2 1/16" spacing, 2 1/16" 6 hole SGGB VTCRB-1(Ping, Taiwan) tremolo.

MIA bridges are 2 point fixing narrow string spacing.

The American equivalent to the Classic Series Ping is Fender p/n 099-2049-000 American Vintage Series Tremolo Assembly which used to be p/n 001-9642-000 as used on the Knopfler, Jimmie Vaughan and other Strats.

TBH, Fender bridge/tremolos are an absolute nightmare, there are so many versions.

Be careful not to confuse the Classic Series and the Classic Player.
For my 2003 Classic Series 50s, a Calaham block fitted well without modification.

The wider spacing is 2-7/32".

If it's a MiM Standard is the smallest, so that's another MiM as Classic or Road Worn Series, it is the large.

A Classic Players Strat is MIM but has the US vintage spec spacing. Is that what you have?
I upgraded one of these bodies with a US trem. It went straight in, no mods.
