I really dig the '54 Sunburst, too.

Here is a picture of a 50th Anniversary American Series Strat I traded for the '75 Strat.

Image

It's not a Strat, but it is a nice 3-color-sunburst Tele I had built.

Boy this is a hard one! Close between two and three tone sunburst...but two tone wins out!

I have never cared for the standard burst finishes. The only one I like is the Sienna Burst on Ash.

Sienna Sunburst is really very nice. I wish that I had added to the list. Would anyone consider blonde a form of "burst?"

Sienna sunburst. There is no better guitar finish.

And yet it's not on the list.

I wouldn't..I think you need to have colors fading into each other for it to be a burst... :?:

3TSB on the left, 2TSB on the right.

(flash photography does not do these finishes justice)

Close but not exactly a real "AS". Just an AS-inspired guitar with the basic features such as the neck humbucker and the overdrive pot. Kinda sorta of a JT Tylerbastar HD without the extra toggles for preamp bypass and out-of-phase sounds and a regular American Series stainless steel bridge in place of the brass type found on Andy's original modified roadworn '63.

WTF difference does this matter?

The topic of this post is sunburst-finished guitars.

Now show us YOURS or STFU!

I would call that mid-70s ash (wide grain) 3-color-sunburst. I really like that look. I'm not a big fan of the yellow washed looking sunbursts of the '60s.

It's actually a late 70's Mustang, but it is ash, and I did vote for that option in the poll.

Good eye. I'm a big Andy Summers fan. The guitar was, infact, inspired by Andy Summers' Telecaster. Here is the skinny.

The preamp is an Afterburner 20db volume boost (push/pull pot).
The bridge is aftermarket chromed brass.
The bridge pickup is a CS Broadcaster pickup.
Neck pickup is a SD Jazz pickup that can be coil tapped.
5 way switch so I can get the following sounds: H, SC (neck), H&S, S&S, S (bridge)
One of the tone pots has a midrange "scoop" which, when used in conjunction with the volume and preamp, can either give me Cream era Clapton tones, or very acoustic tones (think piezo sounding).

Bottom line: I can get many of Andy's sound, but I can do a lot other things, his guitar can't do. It's a very versitile guitar I use a lot when I'm playing modern Christian Rock.

It's very cool. The sunburst reminds me of my '75. Thanks for sharing.

Who is this "Robby Robertson"? Did he play with Stevy Ray Vaughan, Eddy Van Halen and Ritchy Blackmore?

He was a member of the group, "The Band." From my perspective, the fore runner to all the "folky" rock, blues, bluegerassy, type bands that you are seeing these days.

Check out the movie, "The Last Waltz."

Whoosh. My post meant to say "please respect the man enough to at least get his name right".
Apparently y/ie misspellings are now so common that people don't notice four of them in a row.
