I picked up two more MIM Strats recently -- one MIM standard, black with maple neck, and one MIM FSR, Sienna Sunburst with rosewood neck. So, never being satisfied to leave well enough alone, I switched necks between the two.. I also wired the bottom tone control on both to work with both the middle and bridge pickups..

On the black one, I replaced the pg with one of the plexi type pg's used awhile back on some American Deluxe Strats. I also swapped pickups -- it now has Seymour Duncan pickups in it -- SSL-6's in the neck and middle, and an SSL-3 in the bridge. I'm not sure yet about this combo. I was going for a Strat with more "attitude", less trebly, lotsa output.. It has that but not much chime, not surprising with this combo.. Actually, truth be told, I missed my 2005 Am Deluxe (Montego Black, rosewood neck) so I recreated the look with this one...

The SSB Strat now has Tex Mex pickups. I adjusted the pole pieces so that they're about level instead of staggered.. They're pretty bright but its a nice contrast with the black Strat..

I really like the sienna with the tortoise shell pg and maple neck. Any modifying the neck swap or was it just a simple drop in so ta speak?

As it is with most Strats, the neck swap was a simple drop-in on both guitars. In fact, after the swap, intonation and action on both Strats checked out fine without making any changes in the setups. That kind of surprised me..

Thanks for all the positive comments from everyone! I might be changing a few things, though. The SD SSL-6 in the neck of the black Strat might be just a little too "dark" for me. I'm considering replacing it with an SSL-2 to get a little more chime.. That would put it back to Martian's "versatility-plus" n/m/b combo of SSL-2/SSL-6/SSL-3...

Tortoise shell on Sienna looks great!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The gold pickguard on the black one looks pretty sweet! Nice additions to the family!
