Just installed Fender Tex Mex pickups on my strat since they sound so great on my Nashiville Deluxe Tele.

They work fine and sound great on all clean settings, but when I use any distortion they start beating like two strings out of tune even though there is only one note playing. The beat rate changes with different notes.

Anybody have a solution?
THX

Everything else works fine, volume, tone controls, switching inc: 2 & 4 humbucking positions.

Are they too close to the strings?

Try lowering them (a lot) and see if it stops.

What you're experiencing is called 60 cycle hum. That's the joy of haveng single coil pickups.
Basically what is, is the pickups picking up electromagnetic interference from other electrical appliances around you.
The reason the hum isn't present in positions 2 and 4 is that the middle pickup is wound backwards, so when it is connected in conjunction with either the bridge or neck pickups, they cancel out each others hum.
You can reduce this hum by shielding the pickup cavity of your guitar with copper shielding tape.

I hope that helps.

yes, I agree. Tune the pick up down in steps and check if the single notes sound different.

cheers :D
