Picked up the tribute cd yesterday. Really good! JJ cale was the man, if you haven't listened to his stuff, get some. He's got the "thing" we're all looking for.

I figure there are the least amount of Clapton haters here. Personally, he's always been one of my all time favorites. i never really understood the influence JJ Cale had on him until recently. My biggest mistake.

I like the way he plays pentatonic blues riffs over three chord tricks.

Groundbreaking stuff there.

Treat yourself to a copy of the DVD "To Tulsa and Back on Tour". If you're going to build a posthumous JJ Cale collection, its a must. Clapton's "Lay Down Sally' speaks tomes for Cale's influence on Eric.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I really thought this would be an uneven cd with all the different vocalist but it holds up nicely through the whole thing.
In fact the variety of singers keeps it even more interesting.
All JJs songs find that laid back groove so if you enjoy his songwriting style you'll love this album. I've had it on the cd player all day.

This is one of those cd's that you'll be able to listen to often and not get tired of it. I've also gained new found appreciation for Mark Knophler and John Mayer.

Eric did a good thing.

Ditto on the good thing. If you don't own 'The Road to Escondito' CD, you should. As well as the DVD 'To Tulsa and Back'. I updated my Knopfler collection with his last two releases when I ordered the Clapton CD. Mayer is not on my list of 'artists who need my support'.
I know he's +1000 on the list of many others but we already have Dave Matthews, SRV, and better 'Rolling Stone Magazine' covers, so I'll take a pass. If he gets back into the blues, maybe I'll give another listen.

I have "The Road To Escondido", really like it. I never was a Mayer fan but he did well on "The Breeze". I've tried to give him a listen, but he just didn't float my boat. Now Knophler on the other hand, he's a great artist.

I really like the version JJ and EC does of "After Midnight" at one of his Crossroads festivals. My absolute favorite version of that song there is. Love his phrasing.

After listening to a bunch of J.J. Cale's songs, it's evident the impact he had on Eric Clapton and Mark Knophler, Mark even plays like J.J.
