Half of the screws holding the trem cover to the bridge are not screwing in tight so I think they may be stripped. Not a real problem yet I know, but is this fixable? Thanks gents and ladies.

Dip a toothpick into some wood glue and stuff it into the bad holes. Shove some glue down in there making sure to clean up any wood glue you smear on the body surface using a wet paper towel. After stuffing glue in the holes take some clean toothpicks and stuff them into the holes and leave them there. Trim off the excess pick sticking up out of the holes very carefully with a set of toenail clippers and clean up any glue that may have squeezed out with the wet towel. Replace the cover, then run the screws back in being careful not to over tighten. They don't have to be tight, just snug. If you find it's better but not as good as you'd like you can always shove a second toothpick in there to take up more slack. Or even a third if it's really badly stripped. Most importantly, stop over tightening those little screws. There is no load on that cover plate. It doesn't have to hold anything. They don't have to be tight.

You could always just leave the cover plate off.
It won't cause you any problems, unless you like to play nekkid and you wear the guitar at a height where your gentleman's bits get caught in the springs

Do you mean the plate on the back of the guitar ; tremolo spring cover ?
If yes; folow BMW-KTM advice , tootpick and glue

Because there in no screw to hold a tremolo cover/ bridge cover with is only use in vintage strat

My preferred method for stripped screw holes is a drop of rapid epoxy, applied with a toothpick in the hole - several runs if needed.
Dries in five minutes, and the epoxy mixes with the wood dust, building a solid layer for the screw.

Quote:
stop over tightening

This would make a great bumper sticker.

IMO , epoxy is a mess to use and it is too hard to work easely . It is also a expensive glue you don't need to this light job . Hard to clean too.

Carpenter wood glue is the best . Made for a woodworking . Easy cleaning with wet cloth .

A tube set of epoxy (base & hardener) is about 2€, so no biggie.
Also, haven't had problems with epoxy stains - a thin layer that stays on the toothpick is all you need.

But, to each his/her own. I've used my share of TiteBond with toothpicks, but I just find epoxy quicker, easier, more reliable.

Can we now leave it at this?

2 euros epoxy = 5 grams ?
I guess you can buy 250 g of carpenter glue for same price . That is why I write is cheaper.

No, actually you wrote epoxy is expensive.

And if you really want to start this nitpicking: how the hell is it cheaper to buy a 250 g carpenter's glue at 6,50 € (TiteBond price) to fix six little screw holes? After all, the OP now knows not to overtighten the screws, so the rest of that 250 g ends up in garbage - I suppose you know it goes bad in about 6 months...

I was only giving another way to skin the cat. Don't need your schoolyard abuse, thank you very much.

Huh?

I've got open bottles of Tite-Bond II adhesive out in my shop that are two or three years old and that glue is still as fresh as the day I opened them to assemble a cabinet. I'll be using some this afternoon in fact as I'm starting a new cab project.

Whatever. I never use Tite- or SigBond older than one year.

But: I've been noticing this gradual change in the forum - from a nice lounge for Fender lovers to something quite different. Snappy answers to newcomers, downgrading cheaper instruments, no tolerance for different preferences, opinions or, as here, methods.

Is this really where we want it to go?

Huh?

I post my observations as a professional cab builder and I'm "snappy"?

WTF?

There's a Jensen P12N driver coming my way soon, and I'm going to need to build a cab for it.
Are there any DIY cab threads on here, and do you have any hints yourself Arjay?

Thanks in advance :)
