I'm trading a new-ish PRS Starla S2 w/ Birds for a 2004 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster 50th Anniversary model. I'm really stoked about it. Its even signed by Chris Duarte after he played it (video proof). While I think the guy is awesome, I don't see his signiture as value added, just a bit more mojo....

I've seen these go for a low as $900 and as high as $2000, so I think I have a fair deal going here. I'm highly debating selling the neck if not swapping the entire guitar for a American Deluxe V Stratocaster neck or an Eric Clapton Stratocaster.

So what are the specs on these and what are your thoughts? I won't have it until Friday.

Hey DB, I can't speak to the trade, but I know a bit about the '04 Am Dlx Strat, 50th Ann model, since I own one (for the moment). Awesome guitars, good QC and nicely turned out.

This was the first major redesign of the Am Dlx, therefore Version 2. The first Strat, I believe, to use the S-1 Switch and definitely the first to use the newly designed SCN Pickups, (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless) from Pup guru Bill Lawrence.

Here's your Service Diagram, chock full of information about wiring and part numbers:
http://support.fender.com/service_diagrams/stratocaster/011-2004803A_SISD.pdf

You didn't mention the color, did you? Mine is the Two Tone Sunburst, beautiful in my eyes and dark tinted V neck.

Enjoy your guitar and remember:

Congrats on the new strat.
The deluxe anni 50th has gold hardware. Two tone sunburst. SCN with S1.
Crushed gold interior of tweed case with 50th logo.
Pickguard has 50th emblem.
All deluxe USA strats come with the 50th neck plate to mark the 50th year of the strat but the "anniversary"model has the parts outlined above. :D

No V-neck, unfortunately, but it has a really cool pickguard. Does have S-1 and SCN pups in a two tone sunburst with gold hardware...

I took this guitar in on a trade, with the hopes I could easily flip it... To which I found I couldn't, but then I decided to play it...

Wow... Despite the thin neck (I've grown used to playing Gibson R8 size necks), I found this guitar to just be an amazing player. I think its the first guitar I've ever owned with a rolled edge fretboard. It was super easy to play, the SCN pickups sound really good, and I love how it looks.

Now, I decided to keep it and get rid of my other Stratocaster....

This thing is amazing considering all the other Strat's I've owned and played over the years....

Some Strats have that vibe about them. Enjoy it!
