Hello all!
so here i go, got a brand new body (Jeff Beck) but the old pick guard doesn't fit!
Is it ok to drill new holes? will it affect the sound or the value of the guitar, or any other "side effects"
your advice is highly appreciated!
Thanks
Alex

How else are you going to mount the pickguard to the body?
Please don't drill new holes in the pickguard!

Hello Katsiv,

I'd drill away in a heartbeat

Cheers.

Go for it...with a few points. If the old hole "sorta" lines up, fill it and drill a new hole. A screw that has been wedged into an existing hole will be obvious.

hey man if you can take the pain of drilling into a strat (this is a joke) than go ahead and do it just make sure it all lines up

Or get a new pickguard custom cut that matches the holes you already have. WD Music provide this service; I've used it and it works fine. Costs a touch more than an off-the-peg guard, obviously...

As long as you own the guitar or have the owner's permission, you can do anything you want to it.

I've done this a number of times, and am always changing pickguards. Several different brands (fender, allparts, custom made), all of which have "slightly" different holes.

The big differences are the problem - those are easy to drill. The pain in the $@! is when one is just a l-i-t-t-l-e off - just enough to make the screw go in crooked, and not far enough to be able to drill a new hole without.
