So, I ordered what I call Martian's Fratocaster pickup combo, SD SSL-2 (n), SSL-6 (m), SSL-3 (b), for my next Strat project. But now I'm wondering.. I already have this same combo in another of my Strats and, obviously, I like the combination but... Do I really want two Strats with the same pup configuration?

I don't gig so I don't have the same issues a working musician would have -- If I want to change the tone significantly, I can take the time to swap guitars and change the amp settings as necessary. (During a gig, a guitar player would most likely be better served with a single guitar setup that enables them to switch to a different pup and adjust the tone and volume controls quickly.)

So, I was thinking. Should I use the SSL's (2 of each now in my supply, so 6 pups total) in a way so that I have two guitars with the same basic tone characteristics (same pup configuration) or, do I use two different configurations?

My original plan was to go with the same in both guitars (SSL-2/SSL-6/SSL-3). The two guitars are both standard MIM guitars, one rosewood fretboard, one maple. Otherwise they're basically the same. Here are a few alternatives:

Guitar #1 (more traditional sounding Strat, I figure, with either of the following):
-- SSL-2 (n), SSL-2 (m), SSL-6 (b)
-- SSL-2 (n), SSL-2 (m), SSL-3 (b)

Guitar #2 (higher output, mids-oriented Strat, a more modern type sound):
-- SSL-6 (n), SSL-3 (m), SSL-3 (b)
-- SSL-6 (n), SSL-6 (m), SSL-3 (b)

Comments, opinions and suggestions welcomed!
