Hi all,

new to the forum and have just acquired my first stratocaster. I got it in a trade. After having a look online though I'm beginning to doubt if it's a genuine fender. It doesn't have a serial number on the back of the neck ( just a custom shop logo). Is thisd something to worry about. It is apparently a 2008 custom shop model.

Thanks guys

Hi there generally the custom shop models have the serial on the neck plate.
It should also come with a certificate of authenticity c.o.a which also has the serial on it.
Feel fre to post pics :D

+1

There are a bunch of places to buy a custom shop waterslide decal and put in on any guitar. And even custom shop neck plates can be purchased on ebay and screwed onto any guitar. But without good pictures there is no way we can identify or authenticate it here. In some cases we might even need the guitar to be taken apart to be sure of what it is...or isn't. Things like body markings/stampings, the type of routes in the body and electronics etc is the only way to be 100% certain.

What did you trade for it?

Bad sign -- You need to post some pics, though. Impossible to validate without pics.
