Well, I've got one Strat with the Martian-recommended SD SSL-2/SSL-6/SSL-3 neck/mid/bridge combo and I really like that combination. I have another Strat that I'd like to also equip with a set of SD pups, but something a bit different.

I'm considering using the SD Twangbanger in the bridge position, with an SSL-2 (neck) and SSL-6 (middle). I'm not sure whether using the hotter-output SSL-6 in the middle will play well with the lower output Twangbanger in the bridge, though.

Opinions, alternatives and suggestions welcomed..

Actually, you've answered your own question regarding the reduced output of the Twangbanger. Not only will you have the same pickup in the neck AND now the bridge, but because the T'Banger is an SSL-1 with a metal plate on the bottom of it, it will be more midrangey with a too loud G string.

If you really want to go for something different with even more versatility, try my latest configuration: A DiMarzio Area 67 in the neck, a DiMarzio Area 54 Pro in the middle and a DiMarzio Injector NECK model in the bridge. Yes, these are all stacked humbuckers with appropriately staggered polepieces for today's lighter gauge strings.

Based on your suggestion awhile back, I put that exact Dimarzio combo in one of my other Strats and I'm very happy with those also. Very different from the SD set. Based on your reply, I am going to use the ssl-2 / ssl-6 / ssl-3 combo again. I'll rely on the tone controls and amp for sonic variety..

Here's the Strat that now has the Dimarzio pickup combo you recommended. Its a Classic Player 50's body with an American Deluxe Strat bridge (wanted the pop-in arm), Blacktop Strat neck, locking tuners, and your recommended pickups -- Area 67 (neck), Virtual Vntage 54 Pro (middle), and Injector (bridge).

Thanks! The Dimarzios sound great. It seems that you can really hear each note clearly and distinctly, especially the higher notes.. and, of course, they're noiseless. For me, the noiseless thing isn't that big of a deal since I only play here at home and there's no problem with noise sources.

So, why am I focused on SDs for my latest project? mainly, cost.. The SDs are a bit less expensive and, for the home environment, a little hum wouldn't be a big issue..

Hey, thanks for the insight on the Twangbanger. I wouldn't have guessed it was basically a modified SSL-1..
