Hi ,

Today i decided to change the strings of my electro-acoustic Takamine , so i did choose an Elixir phosphor Bronze string 12/53 . but i did find out that they re so hard to play comparing to the first strings i had before , they were from Dadario phosphor bronze 12 /53 ( they were really easy to play ) . could someone plz explain me why ? even if they re the both light guage ? i m really desappointed because they were expensive . has someone some advises ? and thanks for the help .

So the type and gauge can be exactly the same but if it's a different brand then intonation will be affected, albeit slightly. Would you care to explain that?

Because the manufacturers don't start from the same point when making the strings.
They use different wire stock from different sources, and there will be issues getting the same consistency in the materials.

If I switched from using D'Addario strings to using Ernie Ball strings I'd expect to have to adjust intonation slightly, as well as tweaking the truss rod and possibly the spring tension in my floating tremolo setup.

The differences between different brands will be there - they may be miniscule differences, but they will be there nonetheless.

Here's a post I made recently in a different thread - the red highlighted bit is a common theme between that thread and this one.

Elixers don't cost more because they are easier to play. To the best of my knowledge no strings claim to charge more because they're easier to press. They cost more because they are coated and last longer.

Try the Custom Lights. That's the gauge I run on my acoustics. 11 - 52. They strike a nice balance between ease of play (10s) and bolder tone (12s).

(and this is the Stratocaster forum, by the way ....)

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Most illuminating!
Thanks.
