Hey all. I've had my MiM Strat for about a month and love it like my own child. I went ahead and blocked off the tremolo (thank Saint Slowhand and Drop D tuning for that). Right now blocking it is a couple of nickels wrapped tightly with tape. Don't get me wrong, it works fine but its unprofessional and professionalism is what I'm going for in my guitar career. Can anyone recommend a product that is used to block the tremolo action? So in other words a replacement for my spare change. Thanks gents!

The really pro way would be to get a genuine Fender wooden block, but although Fender has the EC Signature model(s), I very much doubt that spare part is in the menu... Überproway would be to order one from the Custom Shop.

Most of us, I believe, just make a wooden block that fits snugly between the trem steel block and the body. To fit better, it may be wedged a little. And of course painted to match the guitar, if you like.

A little hint: put a small screw in middle of the wood block. When you need to take the block off, you unscrew it a little and presto: you got yourself a "handle".

Hi cumminb and welcome to the forum!

I've never actually skinned a cat myself but they say there is more than one way to do it. :) Same with blocking a trem on a Strat. You can use a block of wood as jmattis suggested, or use five springs and tighten up the claw, or as you and others have done, use a stack of coins. I don't think one way is more or less "professional" than another. The goal is to block the trem so whatever works is good.

    HTH

    Cheers!
    BM

What you wanna do, BM, is get yourself a set of those really ultra grippy fishing gloves with the rough gritty rubber coating on the outside. You take your sharp knife and you make circular slits around the nose, eyes and each paw. Grasp the feline by the tail and crack the whip. Done.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I used this method in lieu of using any type of spacer or wood block, and it works fine.
