Hi noisemaker,

Unfortunately the answer to your question wouldl be an no.

The canvity routing of the Floyd Rose and a Fender Vintage Tremolo is different. You would have to do a lot of filling and drilling to make the other bridge fit. The bottom edge of the vintage bridgeplate is also shorter than the Rose's so on top of filling the cavity, you would also have to match the finish to make it look nice.

After giving a quick read on that site I see that some routing is still needed to that trem king thing to fit and work.
My personal opinion is if you want to get rid of the floyd rose sell that guitar and get one with a different type of trem.

I agree, if you don't want the Floyd get another Strat. I have had requests to change guitars back to a traditional bridge and it's just not worth the effort and expense involved. If you really like the neck and pickups then I would look into getting a replacement body. Warmoth makes nice replacements and your stock neck will most likely fit snugly depending on the year of your Strat.

I'd suggest that actually this job is do-able - if you can be bothered to go to the trouble. Filling the post-holes is no problem, and only moderate carpentry skills are required to fill the rear cavity, assuming your Floyd is the "traditional" type that required one in the first place. The most tricky bit is refinishing: if you have a nice transparent finish you are going to have a LOT of difficulty getting it to match. That would challenge a seriously skilled luthier.

Check the second from bottom picture on this page for a look at how a comparable job was done on Dave Gilmour's Black Strat - and with what kind of results:

http://www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=66

So. After viewing that pic you and I would probably want to go with those recommending a new guitar or at least a body. Much easier.

I have seen (I don't remember where) a set of photos of a strat with a floyd rose being modded back to the original trem. It was a big job, but basicly a block of wood was fitted into the trem hole, the body was rerouted for the normal bridge and then the body was refinished. So I guess its possible, it just depends on how much effort you want to put in :)
