*** EDIT: I ordered the White HSS, still taking opinions and suggestions for mods/pickups etc!***

New member here, I could really use some opinions! I'm starting a project strat that will be heavily moded metal strat. Active EMG's will be installed and I need help on if i should do the Whiteout or Blackout theme. Black is always the classic choice, but I almost think a whiteout strat that sounds like a monster would be pretty awesome and unique. Below are some pics to help you form an opinion, pictures of the pickups are below as well to help you imagine what they would look like installed. The Jim Root Strats were my inspiration for this, I want one but its way too pricey!

Later on I could look into installing black/white tuning machines on the headstock and maybe a black/white bridge or something.

Lastly, I would like to eventually remove the black dot inlays on the fretboard, I love the no inlay look. Is this a complicated job?

Fire Away! (suggestions welcome too!)

Whiteout: Fender Standard Strat HSS (arctic white w/ maple fretboard)

Blackout: Fender Blacktop Strat HH (black w/ maple fretboard)

I like the white out idea. Reminds me of this guitar, the Élan dark evolution. This model used to be sold by Fender under the Heartfield line in the 90's. Although, the Fender Elams were better IMO even though they are still made by Fujigen (FGN) :

I think the white out theme is pretty classy and would get more attention. It's the kind of guitar people would remember.

My opinion is I feel strongly in both directions and I am sure my adversaries would disagree.

Did u read the post? I said it's going to be my metal strat and is heavily influenced from the Jim Root strats (they have emg). Do you expect me to have single coils In there? I understand this is far from traditional but like I said purists beware!

Anyways, thanks for your contribution to this thread

I like the look of that a lot, that's what I'm leaning towards. Thanks for sharing!

I was thinking the same, a blackout theme is seemingly pretty common, and a whiteout would be more of an attention grabber.

Yeah, I like the "Whiteout" scheme, Black has been done to death (haha).

What I'd like to know is what color your stage attire will be? Black Cape with Blood Red lining would go well with either.

Just sayin'........

You'll require a lot of skills to remove the dots from the fretboard.

Otherwise you should take your guitar to an expert luthier.

In your place I would buy a plain maple neck from Warmoth.

Here's an intuitive tutorial, hope it helps!

I won't presume to speak for Frank but I can tell you I had the exact same reaction he did and (for me) it has nothing to do with tradition. I've just never once tried an EMG pup that was any good in my opinion. Passive, active, whatever.

In my mind EMGs are so ...
what's the word?
Past their Best-Before date.

Not even David Gilmour & the red Strat..?

To the OP: Like that white idea. And in general, anything you do to a guitar you own is your priviledge.
(Maybe with the exception when the donor guitar is a pre-CBS one.
Hey, wait - I just remembered a couple of rising guitar heroes in the monochrome days; one cut an arm rest & the other a second cutaway to their Teles... So, no exceptions to the rule.)

Fair enough, maybe I misunderstood. I've also been looking at bare knuckle pups, I don't need actives, just high output ones

Dave is also losing interest in EMGs. His Red Strat has not been his number one for quite some time now. He went back to the black Strat with traditional pups in it.
Also, Dave doesn't really count here anyway seeing that he doesn't do heavy metal.
