Hey fellas! I 'm looking for a new guitar and i really want to hear your opinion! Fender highway one 2003 with small headstock or fender lite ash stratocaster? the first mia, the second mik. On the other hand i think the best of the woods and the pickups of the lite ash (i know about the crapy electronics but its an easy fix). The high way one has really worn off finish, the lite ash is in pristine contition. The price is about the same. What do think about the value of these guitars? How much would you pay for them? What about their quality? AND MOST IMPORTAND, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

The highway ones go for as low as 500 but at least it will hold its value even with the road worn look. The MIK however is not a bad guitar it seems. I don't think I would pay 500 bucks for one being an MIK but it is a "special edition" and that is typically not a bad thing, at least as far as "value". There is one on eBay now asking $675 or best offer. As far as which one I would buy would depend on the deal. I would prefer a good deal on the MIA but for the right price I would consider that lite ash. I would want to play it first though and make sure it feels right. I would not think a Korean is built to the standard of an MIA but you never know with Fenders.

EDIT: Actually the lite ash one on eBay is an MIM from 95. But it seems even the Korean versions are asking in that ball park and getting very good reviews. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/ ... atocaster/

The Highway 1 just oozes mojo......that'd be my choice between the two.

Of the two, I'd choose the Highway 1, although the Lite Ash guitars weren't bad at all.

But, given the choice, I'd pick the H1.

I always wondered why the HWY 1s were so much cheaper then the other USA Strats?

Anyone?

I can not verify this 100% but what some owners have told me is the Highway 1 is Mexican Assembled with American Parts, the Alnico pups are different then the American standard, no S-1 switching and it uses a conventional vintage style bridge vs the 2-post. Also it has a "thin skin" nitro finish which might cost Fender less then the thick poly on the standard granted they both use a poly undercoat so I doubt that makes any difference in tone...it will just wear much quicker. However some feel that is a plus if they prefer that "mojo" look.

What I can imagine at the very least is the bodies are not lacquered in California as it is not legal to use nitro there anymore.

I purchased a HWY 1 body, because of it's thin nitro finish. Some of the finish was worn off and didn't notice an undercoat. Installed a 60's neck and Texas Specials.

That would be odd as all Fenders supposedly use a poly undercoat. Who knows maybe some didn't but I have yet to see any original fender bodies without some type of undercoat/sealer.
