Over a year ago, I purchased a Warmoth Stratocaster neck with the widest nut width and fattest neck profile. I fought with the neck size for most of that time, namely the pain in my left hand, on the palm near my index finger. It gets very, very tender after playing for an hour or more (which I have to play when gigging for 3+ hours). I shaved back the neck a few times, but I'm still finding it painful to use. Its when i come to realize, I believe its the nut width, not the shoulders of the neck profile bothering me. I love the specs of the Warmoth (Pau Ferro fretboard, jumbo stainless steel frets, quartersawn maple neck, vintage tuner holes...), but I believe I misjudged the neck demensions, mostly the width.

So here's what I'm thinking.... Either order another Warmoth neck with a thinner nut and slightly slimmer profile or buy an artist model neck on Ebay... My options for a neck from various signature artists are:

Stevie Ray Vaughan (most expensive option)
Jimmy Vaughan (I don't mind maple)
Kenny Wayne Shepherd (lack of tint bothers me, 12' radius is cool)
Robert Cray (what exactly is the difference from a '61 C shape to today?)

Thoughts? GO!

The Cray neck is quite similar in profile to that found on the MIM '60s Classic Series Strats. The overall difference lies in the 9.5" fretboard radius and the medium-jumbo fretwire.

I use the Kenny Wayne Shepherd neck as I love the 12" radius. As far as the tint you can do that yourself with a shaker can of dyed nitro tint from reranch etc. However I have no way of knowing if that is going to help with your hand pain. Maybe you can try one out at a music store if they have one and see if it is comfortable for you.

I have my first Warmouth neck getting delivered in a couple of days. I ordered the '59 Round profile. I hope I like it. It's really a leap of faith ordering a neck online.
What I like about Warmouth is being able to choose and pick all of the options. I'm getting stainless steel 6105 frets, compound radius, birds eye maple, satin finish.
I'll bet you can sell your neck online. There's always someone that wants to try something different.

my fav neck profile (so far) is the SRV.
I had a Warmoth build in which I used their version of the SRV profile but it has a compound radius. I chose the standard nut with. I love the neck and it doesn't feel much diff than Fender SRV. Although it does feel slightly beefier near the headstock. Other players have mentioned the same thing.
