Hello,

Ive seen this add and, since it doesn't seem to carry the Gold Lace Sensor pickups, I was wondering if any expert could tell, by the pictures, if this could really be a 89 Strat Plus.

Thank you!

Other than the pickups, everything else looks legit. A lot of people don't care for the Lace Sensors so not unusual to see them switched out.

I always wanted a Gunmetal Blue Maple fretboard Strat Plus. What are they asking for it? ;)

SD, I ran this through a translation, he is in Madrid Spain, and he is asking 900 precios. I believe that is the Euro dollar, so in current exchange rate, 1225.00 USD.

As JasonSD pointed out, it is an '89 Strat Plus.

My 2014 Vintage Guitar Price Guide values this guitar at $1300 - 1600 in excellent condition. The fact that the pickups have been replaced will effect the value a bit. If it had the original Lace Sensors, I would have placed the value of this guitar in the high end.

If I were to purchase this guitar as is, I would pay now more than $1,000. You might find it difficult to locate the correct Lace Sensors. The logo on early Lace Sensors were not recessed into the cover. Often the paint would be worn away.

I owned '87 Strat Plus, with roasewood fingerboard, that had been stripped down to the wood. But looking in the back cavety, I found that the original color was gunmetal blue, a rare color in my mind.

The guitar is worth about $900 -$1,000 US. If the guitar had the original pickups, the value would be muck greater ($1,300 - $1,600).

By the by, I owned one of these guitars, and still play a Clapton Strat, and love the gold Lace Sensors.

He replaced the pickups with Strat standard ones.
Sadly, the second hand instrument market here in Spain is not as affordable as it is in the USA. There´s usually a substantial difference. Even with new ones. I used to have a Taylor I bought new in NYC which costed me $1,400 and it's price here was over $2,500.
That's why we usually end up bringing instruments along with us when we come back from the states, whenever we are able to go there!

;)

It always bugs me when people are throwing out values for guitars with no allowance for where people live. Anywhere other than the US we pay through the nose for Fenders and gibson, and this trickles down into the used market.

So a book cataloguing prices in dollars is not huge help in Europe, because we paid much more in the first place!

Rarity also plays a part. Strat plus' might be relatively abundant in the US, which will keep their price lower than in Europe where I would hazard a guess not as many got sold/exported
