Hello, :D
I tried to clean some pole pieces of the single coiled pickups (Texas special) of my American Special strat with a pencil rubber. The pickups are mounted on the guitar.
Some little parts of the rubber fell inside the coil of the pickups.
Please, I would like to ask if it would be harmful to the pickups if I used a strong vacuum cleaner to remove these little parts?
Could the coiled structure, the beginning of the winding, etc. be resistant to a strong suction?
Yours sincerely,
John

No problem using a vacuum cleaner at all, so long as you don't physically touch and disturb the windings.

Also, no problem leaving the Rubber shavings in place either... Rubber is a non-conductor... won't affect a thing !

cheers!

Rubber part don't hurt pickup. Yes you can use vacuum .

And you can live these parts there too.

Thank you very much for your answers!
I used the light of my iphone to check my pickups, the distance to them was 3 to 5 cm and I noticed a strange noise coming from the amp. I know that cell phone has some king of magnetic field.
Please, do you know if the magnetic field of iphone can change permanently the magnetic properties of single coiled pickups?

No it cannot.

Any magnetic field strong enough to permanently alter the polarity or Gauss rating of a permanent magnet such as the Poles of a single coil is also gonna be strong enough to lift a car.. !!

That said, it could be strong enough to alter the Tone while you are playing it if the phone were just a few milimeters away, but it would have to be very close to the pickup. Even then, the effect would be slight... but possibly detectable.

cheers!

Never seen such a problem? Have to look into some 40 year plus pickups and see crud
