Hi there,

First post here. I´m after a good American Strat, tired of my poor-sounding Vintage Modified Squier...

I would like you to tell me about how the Vintage Hot Rod 50 compares to the normal AS Strat with the Fat 50s, as I don´t have the possibility of trying one here in my country.

I know these two guitars are quite different, but... how would you describe the overall tone? Warmer, thicker, brighter...?

By the way, I love the Fiesta Red / Maple Neck combo!

Thanks in advance and I hope that happy VHR 50 chime in!

Cheers!

I don't own one but I've played a few. The Hot Rod is *based* on the vintage Strat platform but with a few modern twists (larger frets, flatter board, etc). The American Standard has the 22-fret neck and the newer two-point trem. The feel of the HR's neck is decidedly different from the contemporary model -- a bit beefier/chunkier. However, I prefer the Fat 50's pickups over any other currently available Fender pickup set. Their "bite" is less vicious than say, the Texas Specials, but they're higher-output than the 57/62's or the Custom Shop 69's.
