I had an American Deluxe with V neck.
Perfect sounds... perfect neck... perfect setup... perfect intonation... perfect finish... perfect in every aspect.
It's a perfect guitar... except for me, it didn't have a soul. It felt like I was playing a computer.
I traded it in for a 59 Reissue. It sounds and feels like the real thing. The finish is so light you van feel the entire guitar vibrate with every note. Try the 59 or 56... you'll see what I mean..:)

:?: No, it is an ann "model", specific to one year, period. There will be no 60th Ann logo, emblem or badge on guitars produced next year, or the year after, etc. It will not be 18 to 24 months, it is not a regular production guitar. Serial numbers on regular production models do not go for 18 to 24 months anyway, it is still only one year, from about March of one year to March of the next year. It's not a Telebration, it's not an invitation, it's not even a pontification, it is an anniversary model, one year and out.

FWIW, I finally got to try out a 60th Commemorative and the interesting thing that the serial number started with US13. I thought for sure a 2014 model would have a US14 serial number. Not sure which side of the model year discussion this supports, but I found it interesting.

My Deluxe also has a US13 serial, but it was purchased back in February so I just figured it was a 2013 model. OTOH, I purchased a Detroit Tigers Standard Strat, back in April and the serial number starts with MN14.

As far as the collectability argument, I'm not expecting the either to increase in value for a good 40-50 years but I'm more curious about resale value if I decided to sell either in say 2-3 years. The 60th sells for $1499USD brand new. If I sell the thing in 2 years, am I only going to get like $600 for it? Or will I get something closer to what I paid for it? Not so concerned with it going up in value, just concerned with it maintaining value assuming it's kept in perfect condition.

I was very impressed by the 60th during the 15 minutes I was able to noodle around on it. Seemed to have way more of a 'soul' than the Deluxe. I know I'll probably take a big hit on the trade in, so I'm considering just buying it outright and then selling the deluxe on consignment at a local guitar shop that has agreed to only take 12% 'commision' on it.

Same here, mine has US13, meaning that it was produced earlier in the year of 2014. As Lightnin MN alluded to, the serial numbers overlap in years, from about March of one year to about March of the next year. The ann neck plate and badge will not follow suit, they will end with the model year. It will be interesting to see if any of the features carry over to the Am Std of next year, but I don't think that they will. :?:

I didn't realize you were trading at a store, so yes, you can do much better selling it elsewhere. The store will resell, so they want to make some money from the deal.

I've got a 2013 American Deluxe SSS Alder/Rosewood with Sunburst finish. ... I've considered trading it in for a 60th Anniversary Commemorative Strat. ... How are the Special Design 1954 pickups? Are they from the custom shop?
....

I had the 2010 AmDlx as you described, sold it. Kept the 2011 AmDlx with maple fingerboard. Added the 2012 American Standard in my avatar and merged a 60th Anniversary Commemorative into the group last week. I would suggest making the trade for one of these two (but that's just me). The Custom Shop single coils in the 2012 are surprisingly quiet and the pickups in the 60th are close to that same flavor. I highly recommend getting into a guitar store that has one of these, plugging into a fairly loud amp and flying through the pickup positions for a few minutes.
