HUH?

Jeff Healey couldn't see his knobs at all and he didn't have any problem.

Great guitar, man -- However, there is at least one simple mod you should definitely consider ... and that is getting a new trem block. I believe it was in 2008 that Fender went to a much heavier trem block for MIM Standards. I got a used one one off eBay for my 2004 (also black, by the way) for about $15, and it takes two seconds to change out.

For me, I also put in Tex Mex pickups and better saddles, along with the aesthetic changes (probably sounds stupid, but black knobs are easier to see using only peripheral vision)

If yours is a 2004 Standard, It was the same guitar to start with as mine. Did you notice a difference in playability or sound through each of these upgrade changes? That looks nice and the black knobs do look good with that pickguard.

I have a MIM 60's Classic Strat and changing the block to a steel one was a very noticeable change. I also threw in a set of Texas Specials into it and of course those had much more honk to em. Not sure about the saddles as mine came with the vintage spec ones.

FWIW

Nice..I am quite happy with mine..so much so that I recently picked up a second one...I'd like to get one with a rosewood fretboard next..I paid 200 for one and 120.00 for the second one.both were basically unplayed and owned by people who wanted to learn to play but never got into it.i figure at those prices, your buying a quality instrument that leaves you some cash for upgrades..I am quite content with the stock pickups on both.. :D

Very nice guitar.

I would only suggest a string change. The last person who loaded those strings did it wrong.
When you go to load the string into the tuner, the rule of thumb is to measure the string to the peg tip, then go two more up, and cut the string there. Load the string into the hole in the tuning peg, and then wind it on, keeping the string as low as possible, this will increase the strings down-force on the nut and help keep the strings from buzzing. And with less windings, it will tune easier.

I know, it's a bad string up when people can notice it looking at a picture. Ha! That's a good tip on knowing how to determine the length. I usually start winding, back it off, pull the string further, start winding again.
I did order new strings. The package came yesterday. I opened it up and it wasn't my strings but some other item that someone else had ordered. They have sent them again and I need to go to the post office and send back the other item for them. I probably won't have them till Monday now. Oh well, I can still play it the way it is for now.
