I just bought my first Fender. It is a MIM Standard made in 2000. It has taken me a couple of days to figured out posting pictures but think I finally got it. I am really liking this guitar.

Enjoy it.

Hint: keep the pickups low.

Lower pickups will produce more of the Strat's traditional quack than having them super-close to the strings. Ideally, about 2.5mm between the wound bass strings and the top of the pickup poles with 2.0mm separation between the treble-side strings and the pickup poles should be close to ideal.

Great guitar, man -- However, there is at least one simple mod you should definitely consider ... and that is getting a new trem block. I believe it was in 2008 that Fender went to a much heavier trem block for MIM Standards. I got a used one one off eBay for my 2004 (also black, by the way) for about $15, and it takes two seconds to change out.

For me, I also put in Tex Mex pickups and better saddles, along with the aesthetic changes (probably sounds stupid, but black knobs are easier to see using only peripheral vision)

+1...Some very sound advice...well except for the black knobs (not crazy about the look) but on stage it may very well be easier to see!

If yours is a 2004 Standard, It was the same guitar to start with as mine. Did you notice a difference in playability or sound through each of these upgrade changes? That looks nice and the black knobs do look good with that pickguard.
