Yep. Or like I sometimes see in my other field where people replace expensive products and overlook a bad fuse or fuse holder, or replace an entire starter motor when it was only corrosion at the battery terminals.

Tards like that keep guys like us in business.

That is true. I also make extra money when they are not happy with my quote and have the balls to ask me if they can do it themselves. What I normally tell them is "sure, if you have 20 years of experience and $10,000 in tools". On occasion that works. Other times I see them back in a week or two and they have a mess. I now get the pleasure to inform them that it will be more since I have to undo everything they did and make repairs just to get it back to the starting point.

My daughter got a flat a few days ago. Her boyfriend who is 35 had never changed a flat before and didn't know what to do. Gave me a chuckle.

So you loaned them a jack and a 4-way lug wrench then told them to get to work......?

Better yet, they were on a little adventure on a dirt road in the mountains, 30 miles from the nearest paved road, with no cell signal, and getting dark. So, he had to learn. I heard about it later. :)

A lesson that will serve them both in good stead, I'm sure.

Self-sufficiency is a priceless asset.

Well sometimes old guys get caught with new technology too.

This was over ten years ago but my neighbor complained to me that he had to return his computer after a week because the coffee-cup holder broke.
I went over too see this bling-out supercomputer and he had a fresh brewed cup of coffee in the open CD player.

PS. Man we hijacked this thread didn't we?

That is funny. I had a neighbor recently call me over saying his DVD player will not eject a movie. I explained to him that I do not deal with that kind of thing but since he knows I am in the electronics field asked me to at least take a look at it.

So I go over and look at it. It seemed to me there was not a DVD in it. So I ask him what movie and he tells me. I go over the the DVD case of that movie and open it...and sure enough the movie was in the case.

And yes we hijacked this thread. That is what forums are for

Oh and while we already hijacked this thread into oblivion and are on to discussing human stupidity as it relates to modern technology.....

On well more then one occasion I have had a customer "claim" that the stereo in their vehicle is "eating" CD's. Well that is a physical impossibly with a single CD unit as if there is already a CD in it there is a default mechanism that prevents another CD from being inserted.

It seems what these people are doing (and scouts honor this is the truth) is inserting the CD not into the stereo, but into any gaps around the dashboard area near the stereo. I always get a kick out of their expressions when I remove the dash panels and sure enough is a pile of CDs back there..usually laying on top of the chassis of the stereo.

If I had not seen this at least a half a dozen time I might disagree, but I can't.
