Could someone tell me which strings were original on a 2005 American Deluxe Strat? If not, any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Forum.

It was either 9's or 10's. Probably 9's.

Likely the strings on the current specs.

Here's what Fender says about strings. (This follows a thread we labored on regarding string gauges which was prompted by the thought that the earlier trem blocks were more massive and thus demanded a heavier gauge string). Not so said Fender Consumer Relations. It seems that 10's are put on guitars which were historically supplied with them. Many of the 'vintage' models, like'58 for example, were supplied with 10's. 9's are considered more generic, user friendly and easier to play and are supplied on newer issues.

As far as choice, your hands will dictate. However you must keep in mind that it may be necessary to recut a new nut to accommodate different string gauges properly.

Originally they came with fender bullets. (probebly 9's like mentioned).
Try different ones! it's really the best way to find the ones you like better.
Lower gauge (lighter touch, thin sound) higher gauge (harder touch, thicker tone).
Find the gauge you like better first (so you don't need to adjust to many things when re-stringing) and then you'll narrow down your search... a bit :D

Then you'll fall in different material (bronze, copper, nickel, gold, silver, tungsten) some are more resistant to corrison (like silver/gold... also more expensive).
You'll also have coated strings (Dr. , Elixir, etc...) that will last longer.
Ah and don't forget the winding (roundwound, flat wound, halfwound (a mix of both).

Obviously i'm going into crazy information but still, it's nice to have a choice!

p!

FWIW, my '08 Deluxe came with 9's. After my show this weekend I am going to have it set up for 10's, though. I find it easier to bend to pitch with that extra tension on the strings.

I've never heard of a stock Strat setup with anything other than .009 Fender Bullets. At least not in the past decade I'm sure.

My Custom Classic came with .010s. From the specs sheet:

Strings - Fender Super 3250R, Nickel Plated Steel, (.010 to .046), p/n 073-3250-006
