Film accuracy is always been and will be a problem.

My favorite one was the Buddy Holly story, here is is the mid to late 50's and Mr Gary Busey is playing a what?

So here is a picture of the Real Buddy, playing his Maple necked Stratocaster, and Mr Bucey playing a Telecaster with a Rosewood board.

So, when did Fender start adding rosewood, 1960-61 right?

What's more ridiculous is that Gary Busey could do a passable Buddy Holly. Even with a Red Strat.

The sunburst on the Strat is 3 tone, which makes it a '58.
I thought Fender carried on with one piece maple necks until early '59, and switched to using rosewood fingerboards during that same year.

The recent '59 Strat reissues seem to bear that out.

They're both '59 reissues, just different ends of the year.

Indeed you are correct, sir! It was the Jazzmaster that introduced the rosewood slab board to Fender's guitar lineup, in 1958. The Stratocaster followed suit one year later.

Thanks for all the prelies. The more I read, the more I'm becoming disappointed by the whole thing. It's not even worth an emoticon.

Or the price of a ticket to see such an aberration.

Just watch the documentary " Jimi Hendrix, Hear My Train Coming" and you will see Jimi playing several guitars that are not Stratocasters. These clips are the real thing and the producer was his sister. One clip he is playing a great acoustic.

The documentary is available for those who have net flix.

Yea but you know Arjay that many just don't see it that way, they think Hendrix its Stratocaster. They don't see him playing a SG Custom on Dick Cavett or picture him playing his Flying V's.

As ebaysux points out, Jimi played lots of guitars that were not Strats, but if you are going to show him playing what is obviously suposed to be a Strat, just get it right.

The Telecaster with a rosewood board was introduced at the NAMM show in the summer of 1958, for the 1959 model year, sorry about that one, I was a year behind.

But according to Buddy Holly's bio, he had 5 Stratocasters, and no Telecasters, and all 5 were Maple boards.

This was kinda my point. He did not play rosewood, and not a Telecaster.

It just amazes me when they are making biopics about guitar players and they STILL make the same guitar why the heck can't they get it right. That is not a minor detail to true fans....granted to the average Joe they would probably not notice. It would be like doing a biopic on Mario Andretti and using the wrong race cars or having Richard Petty racing with a Buick.
