So I went to a party yesterday where I picked up an odd duck guitar - a black (with matching painted headstock) Korean made Fender "fat Strat" with a Floyd Rose and two EMG humbuckers - the typical 81/85 combo. Also had a V neck contour, the first I've ever played. I did some research later and learned this is a rare 2008 Fender Strat EMG Sam Ash FSR - some special run of 93 guitars made for Sam Ash.

Now I actually love EMGs, but I roll my eyes at Floyds. I played an Ibanez RG550 for many years and I grew to hate those kinds of bridges. But I was quite surprised at how much I liked the feel and sound of this Strat - especially the V neck. My main guitar is a Les Paul Custom and I found the V to be very comfortable, perhaps even more so than my '97 MIA Strat Plus.

According to what scant specs I can dig up on this guitar, the neck is described as a "soft" V, but it didn't seem soft to me at all. So now I'm curious about a bunch of things:

1. What other Strats have "deep" V necks? Anyone know how the import V necks compare to the MIAs?
2. What are generally regarded as the best Floyd-equipped HH Strats? The ones I see on Fender's site now either have the Floyd Rose Special - which I know nothing about - or a licensed Floyd like on the Blacktop series.

The above link will show you how Fender describes its neck profiles. I don't think it really matters if it is import or MIA as they should be similar enough granted some necks are fatter then others and which feels "better" is subjective.

As far as which Floyd Rose is better that is also a personal thing. I would think in all logic the newer the version the more the improvement but sometimes things get "cheaper" and newer is not always "better". As well if you read enough of these types of forums will find some hate one style and have problems with it and another poster will say they love it and never had a problem.
