Wow - has that Strat been shellacked over the finish, or was it found in a garage/barn/someplace similar?

With that finish it's really had to tell what is original and what is not - if it is original then it would be a circa 1969/1970 Strat. The pickguard is definitely a replacement; those would have had white plastic back then. And of course we would really need to see this one apart to see what may be original. With that kind of damaged finish it is really hard to tell what, if anything, is original.

One thread is sufficient. No need to start three threads about the same guitar.

+1 !

Looks to be a bungled relic job that someone's trying to unload. 3 posts meant to attract attention... perhaps trolling for a buyer through IMs skirting the 'No Selling' rule.

Probably be an ebay listing next week for some unsuspecting buyer.

The Large Headstock places it after '66, but the Neckplate is inconsistent with the rest of the guitar, as are several other components.

Personally, I'd RUN AWAY from this one.

cheers!

Negative.

The enlarged "CBS-era" headstock was introduced to the Stratocaster production line in late December of 1965 though CBS had absolutely nothing to do with the decision.

Actually I would not rule that one out. It can be restored and is worth it if the price is right. It just seems other then a few replacement parts it could be legit and was just painted over (somewhat poorly) with lacquer and is checking over the original checking. However before even considering it I would want a look at the neck heel, neck heel socket of the body, and the cavity routes, as well as the pups and electronics (even the bridge and hardware). If that is a 69 or 70 it is worth a lot, even if restored or not in the greatest shape. Of course the more original parts (or "correct") parts that are with it will increase the value greatly. As well any permanent mods such as routes or extra screw holes can diminish the value some which is why they are worth more in original condition even if rough then if restored but not all original or modded.

Absolutely.

It's bad enough that "Mr. Krylon" had his way with the hapless creature but if "Robby The Router" or "Chad The Chisler" also took a poke at it, there's really not a lot to work with as far as what a pseudo-restoration could accomplish.

And the guitar came into your ownership in '74?
What kind of retard would do that to a guitar?

And please, no more posts about the Strat you wrecked ...

Hi
According to the Fender guitar dater, it was made at Fullerton in 1970
(and if it were mine, I'd try very carefully to get all that stain gunk off it , certainly the neck anyway)
