I have a problem.
I recently inherited (what I believe to be) a 1992-3 MIJ squier strat. It is a bolt on neck, and the serial code is M034373 (which is in silver ink), and right above it says made in japan. Also on the headstock, rather than having squier in large letters, it has fender, then near the end in smaller print it says Squier series. Please help me figure out where this guitar is from, and perhaps even its value.

Yes, get us pics. Until then all we can do is assume it is an MIJ Fender Squire. If it is, that is not such a mystery and the serial number confirms it. They are decent guitars and going up in value however there is a reason it is a squire which is it was built more economically then a Fender "Fender". You can get an idea what they go for by looking for some on ebay but bear in mind often on ebay people are asking more then they will ever get. It there is an auction watch for when it ends and see the most that bidders are going on it. Off the cuff I would guess a good condition early 90's in all original condition could realistically bring $300ish tops maybe a bit more if it is a contemporary model.

It seems to be legit and is a "Made in Japan" Fender Squire (aka "squire series") from 92-3, most likely a basswood body.. Worth $300 ish tops. If you want more, hang on to it for a few more years and if there is not an economic or market crash it will go up in value. Considering it seems to be in great shape and is over 20 years old, it stands to reason at 30 years old will be worth more.

Basic as basic gets. Next model down is squier. This won't go up in value anytime soon imo compared to anything in that era that is going up, which is very little. Nice guitar tho, I had asquier series many years ago. Basically same quality as MIM standard series today :)

I think a market crash notwithstanding it will go up in value. Granted it is a base model Squire series it is an MIJ Fender and if you have noticed all the MIJ's, even squires have been creeping up in value. Many people are realizing the MIJs were half decent and with the older USA's becoming so expensive the MIJs are gaining demand. I don't think it will catch up to some of the 80s models especially the squire reissue vintage types I can see this guitar in several years if kept nice going to 4 maybe 5 hundred dollars.
